Internationally acclaimed for its distinctive character, striking beauty and outstanding wildlife, there is so much to see and do along Northumberland’s coastal AONB. Walk or cycle the
Northumberland Coast Path, paddle past castles on
SUP boards or kayaks, and spot puffins on boat and diving trips.
Take in awe-inspiring views from spectacular viewpoints at
Craster and
Druridge Bay. Pass dramatic stretches of coastline split open by the Great Whin Sill, where ancient black basalt rears from the land to meet the sea. Pass some of Northumberland’s finest jewels, like the
castles of Dunstanburgh and
Bamburgh which stand guard on the coastline, and wander behind sand dunes that drift gently in the breeze.
Enjoy a wildlife spotting trip at one of the National Landscape's many protected wildlife and habitat sanctuaries; a boat trip to The Farne Islands will have you puffin and seal-spotting, and Lindisfarne National Nature Reserve is rated as one of the best sites in Europe for waders and wildfowl.
Step out on a walk to take in the National Landscape's sights and experiences on foot. Follow the coast’s contours by striking out along the Northumberland Coast Path. This twisting path is part of the North Sea Trail, a 64-mile continuous coastal walking route between Cresswell in the south and Berwick-upon-Tweed in the north.
