Storm Arwen Update

As we head towards 12 months since storm Arwen, Forestry England are pleased to report that good progress continues on storm recovery work across Northumberland’s forests.

We are pleased to announce that Simonside Forest Car Park and the forest walks have now re-opened.

The following diversions and closures are currently in place across the county:

  • Wooler Common - Forest walk and St Cuthbert's Way northwards is open
  • Harwood - Forest roads open
  • Thrunton - Closed
  • Kidland - Forest roads open

Kielder Border Forest

Kielder Border Forest oozes adventure. Thrillingly remote, yet easily accessible, it homes the picturesque Kielder reservoir whose banks hold nature hides and walking and cycling routes. It is the perfect place to experience nature, water sports, stargazing and a number of other adventures.

ROUTES IN THIS FOREST ARE CURRENTLY CLOSED DUE TO THE DAMAGE CAUSED BY STORM ARWEN.

Thrunton Woods homes hidden trails with spectacular viewpoints over The Cheviot Hills. Get lost on enchanted, woodland walkways, explore winding cycle routes and admire wild scenery and lichen-clad trees as you go. Footpaths, fables and the wildlife-filled forest floor are waiting to be discovered.
