Overview

Located in the Northumberland National Park and the International Gold Tier Dark Sky Park, Brown Rigg is perfect for a quiet and relaxing break for couples, families, and large groups. Our site, 24 acres in total, is also suitable for walkers and cyclists. The Pennine Way Walking Trail and the Sandstone Way Cycle route pass the entrance to Brown Rigg and National Cycle routes 10 and 68 are just yards away. We offer secure lockable storage for bikes and there is a laundry/drying room on site.

The four, beautifully refurbished, self catering lodges are comfortable, spacious and well equipped with an open plan kitchen, dinning area and sitting room. Each lodge has three bedrooms sleeping up to six people, between a mix of double, twin, king and bunk rooms and are available on an individual basis, or you can make a whole site booking. All of the sitting rooms and rear bedrooms have fabulous views over open countryside, where our resident sheep and horses graze.

There is plenty of space for children to play and the Master bedroom in Pennine and Hadrian have patio doors that open out onto a games field, which is ideal for playing rounders or football. The tarmac courtyard in front of the lodges is also great for children to cycle on their bikes, scooters and roller blades. There is also a BBQ area and private parking directly outside the lodges.

The Function and Games Hall is available for use by guests unless it has been booked for a private function (for which a separate charge applies). The Hall can cater for a large number of people and is excellent for celebrations, meetings or for just eating together. There is a pool table and a table tennis table.

Dog friendly.

Free WiFi available.

Shops and restaurants are a short walk away in nearby Bellingham.

Hadrian`s Wall, Kielder and Kielder Observatory are within easy reach.

Great place to stay, great value too!

Mark D, Coventry, United Kingdom
Stayed overnight in May whilst cycling the Reivers route. This place is superbly placed if you're riding this route, being literally a couple of hundred yards away from it and within a half mile of Bellingham itself, where there are a couple of pubs and a co-op so you can eat and re-stock. Our room was very clean and comfortable and had all the facilities you'd expect - en-suite, TV, tea and coffee making. There's also a shared kitchen facility if you prefer to self-cater but obviously as we were on bikes that wasn't an option for us. With regard to the bikes, there was very secure storage for those too. Lastly, the owners were very friendly and helpful. For the price, this place is unbeatable and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

Holiday Rescue

Sherbert_10, Hull
Due to unforseen circumstances with our B&B (nothing bad) we had to find somewhere very quickly late in the evening. Brown Rigg were our saviours. What a find this was. We knew the location as we visit Northumberland every year. We arrived @ 2100hrs to warm welcome from the family who own the Lodges. We had booked one of the last remaining rooms. How lovely this turned out to be, beautiful clean and modern rooms. Warm with welcome tea & coffee. Beds were so comfy with featherlight but warm duvets, one of the best nights sleep I've ever had on holiday. It is in beautiful countryside surroundings. Well worth a visit and we were only sorry we couldn't have stayed longer and met the animals.

Great area, great accomodation.

bluekieran, London, United Kingdom
We booked Tyne Lodge - 1 double bedroom, one with two singles pushed together, and one with two bunk beds. The place was clean and well-appointed, the beds were comfy, and the TV was smart enough that we could sign in for Netflix/Prime Video - very handy! The skies at night were as dark as you could ask for, and we also headed over to Kielder observatory for a night of stargazing. We also went to Kielder Castle to rent a couple of bikes and cycle around the lake - very enjoyable also! Plus loads more to visit a little further afield. We wished we'd booked to stay longer, and will definitely be back. The only thing I could wish were better is the sound insulation between lodges - Tyne is part of the same building as another lodge, and we occasionally heard talking through the wall when in the lounge; the bedrooms were further apart, though, so no problems sleeping.

Cycling holiday with young children

Lancs2019,
Brown Rigg Lodges was a great place to stay. We stayed in one of the Lodges; it was clean and spacious, and was also set up well, with a fantastic TV and all the kitchen equipment you might need. We would definitely stay again. Whilst staying, we visited the Carriage Tearooms in Bellingham, Hareshaw Linn, Kielder Forest (every day for a bike ride) and Kielder Observatory. We really enjoyed our stay in here and would definitely return. Our kids are aged 6 and 8 and the area was perfect for bike rides and walking with them.

Family trip to the dark skies!

Radiohelen, midlands England
We had a great holiday here in the February half term holiday. The lodges were clean and warm with everything you need. The flowers and local marmalade were a lovely touch! There is a lot for children to do here, even in winter. The hall has a pool table, table tennis and toys for if the weather is bad. There is lots of outdoor space and activities for when the weather is nice. We had one clear night and the view of the sky from our patio was fabulous. We took our own telescope and it was incredible to look at the milky way and see things we cannot access at home. Bellingham is nearby and there is a great walk up to the waterfall there. Most of your shopping needs can be met in the village, the butchers is good and the bakers has good cake and pies! You can also get afternoon tea in a railway carriage which was fun. There are lots of Roman sites around to visit as well as Kielder so you will not be short of places to visit. We had a great time here and would like to return at some point in the future.
