Clean, quiet, handy - but avoid the sandwiches!

The Inn is set back from the A1 near Berwick, a good place to stop going either way on the A1. It is very clean and friendly, and open all day. Tea, coffee, soft drinks are available as well as alcohol. Two weary travellers ordered different sorts of tea (fine, served in pleasing china) and sat in the sun outside watching the world whizz past. The staff were friendly and very obliging. Alas, we had sandwiches which arrived with chunky chips and salad, Tuna and cheese (one "hold the cheese") arrived in warm rolls, but tasted of nothing, dribbled mayo around, and were really nasty. Chips OK and fairly generous, to be fair. But the sandwiches were just plain nasty. Others on the menu sounded even less pleasing. Why must people mess-up what could be good, straightforward food? There's nothing wrong with Tuna mayo if done properly...

Booked but never stayed

To be fair we never stayed but wanted to make sure others did not have same experience. Was looking forward to exploring the NE coast for several days on a Bank Holiday weekend and booked by travel agent six months in advance under guise was a quaint "country" inn good a base for exploring. Well a motor lodge located and equivalent to the Travel Lodge was not an acceptable alternative as part of our two week "luxury" tour through the midlands up through Scotland and back to Ireland. This location might be great for hikers, bikers, and pensioners looking for a location on the highway next to a refilling station but we were not prepared for the small clean rooms and busy location. Luckily found a quaint B&B in Berwick so all was not lost. Good location to access local sites and needing that type of accommodation.

As a valid local customer I was very disappointed in tonights main meal. The mini haggis starter was lovely and I built my hopes up thinking the main will be even better. Only to be placed infront of me, this trof like steak pie with so called chunky chips. Which I can only describe as 4 baked potatoes cut in quarters. Looked hellish!!! And they charge for 4* prices. Won’t be back

Lovely Sunday lunch

Visited last Sunday after a trip to Holy Island. Lovely friendly staff who were happy to add an extra item to one of the orders (bacon to a Brie and cranberry baguette). The rest of us had the Sunday lunch - the plates were very full, tender and tasty meat, nicely cooked potatoes and veg. Only slight let down was the Yorkshire pud which was a bit soft. Overall really pleasant meal

Absolutely Gorgeous

Visited here on a Sunday! Son had a Sunday lunch, partner a steak and ale pie and I had a gluten free beef dip sandwich. All good was amazing and the homemade chips were divine. Staff were friendly and so helpful when discussing allergens! Food and drinks reasonably priced!
