Magna Laughter Invades Chesters Roman Fort Hadrian’s Wall
As part of the Hadrian’s Wall Live event which takes place from 3 - 6 September, Chesters Roman Fort is looking forward to a comedic invasion by Magna Laughter who bring well-known TV comedians, Tony Law and Gordon Southern to the Wall, along with the blustering poetry, storytelling and nonsense of John Henry Falle, The Story Beast.
Law, fresh from his sell-out show at the Edinburgh Festival, has appeared on ‘Have I got News For You’, ‘8 out of 10 Cats’ and ‘Charlie Brooker's Weekly Wipe’. He’ll be headlining an evening of informative historical comedy with his stand-up act based on Hadrian’s Wall's much chronicled past.
Historical comedy genius, Gordon Southern, is a regular headliner on the UK and international circuits, spending several months every year performing in Australia. A highly regarded act, he's worked all over the world, including Afghanistan, The Falkland Islands, Kosovo and Liverpool.
John Henry Falle, otherwise known as The Story Beast, has featured on Radio 4, as part of the Chortle-nominated sketch idiots, The Beta Males. He also joins us straight from the Edinburgh Fringe where his poems, tales and recitation of bizarre Olde Englishe have been garnering rave reviews.
The evening will be hosted by Gosforth lad, Ben Van der Velde, series compere and co-creator of Magna Laughter. Van der Velde was recently nominated for Best Comedy Show at the Buxton Festival and regularly performs at shows the length and breadth of the UK – including at his beloved ‘The Stand Comedy Club’ in Newcastle. He has hosted the comedy tent at Bestival and Festival No.6, as well as holding residencies at the legendary Free Beer Show in Oxford, where he presented the likes of Omid Djalili, Reginald D. Hunter, Sarah Millican, Jim Jefferies and Andrew Maxwell.
Carl Hutton, Events Manager at English Heritage said: “We’re extremely excited to have Magna Laughter at Chesters Roman Fort and look forward to a good laugh on the night. All the acts promise to make this an unforgettable evening of historical comedy, set in a unique venue. Tickets are going fast so we urge visitors to book in order to avoid disappointment.”
Ben van der Velde of Magna Laughter went on: “Having played to a sell-out audience at Wrest Park recently we’re thrilled to be at another unique English Heritage property. This promises to be an excellent evening of laughs. Any Geordie’s that missed the Edinburgh Festival should make their way over to Chesters.”
Magna Laughter at Hadrian's Wall takes place on Saturday, 5 September and tickets are on sale now for £15. For more information and to book visit: http://www.english-heritage.org.uk/visit/whats-on/magna_laughter2/
