Arcade team take on the Tour of Britain without leaving Morpeth!

A fundraising team at Sanderson Arcade are taking on their very own Tour of Britain challenge this month to raise money for the centre’s chosen charity Barnabas Safe and Sound.

Since 2002 Barnabas has provided support and accommodation for vulnerable young people from Morpeth and the surrounding area and also delivers youth work and activity programmes in the region.

The project which the Arcade has chosen to support is Stobhill Community Centre, which has been renamed The Barnabas Stobhill Centre.

And a team from the Arcade will be taking to spinning bikes from Healthlands gym and cycling for 10 hours in the piazza area of the Arcade from 8am to 6pm on Wednesday 9th September.

The aim is to catch up with the Tour of Britain from where it started in Wales, to where they finish in Blyth that evening. In total the team will have to cycle just under 500 miles in 10 hours on four bikes

The teams consist of staff from a mix of stores in the Arcade including Marks and Spencer, 02, Vodafone and Crew Clothing. Staff from the Arcade will also be taking part, and also representatives from the charity and Morpeth Rotary Club.

The Arcade would also encourage any one that would like to hop on a bike for 5 minutes to give the staff a break a very warm welcome.

Medi Parry Sanderson Arcade Centre Manager said: "The 10 hours are going to be tough for staff here at the Arcade but I know that they can do it – and it is all for a great cause raising money for a very worthy charity.

“We hope that some members of the public will even help us to have a quick 5 minute break or two!"

Anyone that would like to donate to the charity can do so by the Virgin Money Giving page that has been set up for the spinathon at
