Overview

The Inn has 18 ensuite bedrooms and is set amongst some of the most breath taking scenery in England, standing in the shadows of Steel Rigg, without doubt one of the most dramatic parts of Hadrian's Wall.  We serve locally produced, homecooked food all day which can be enjoyed in our bar, "Twice Brewed", our restaurant, "Sycamore Gap", or our beer garden.  Please see our website for further details.  Andy and Susan Smith, and the Team look forward to welcoming you to the Inn.

Base Camp

James C,
I used this as my base camp for 4 night, while walking Hadrian's Wall. In short, excellent in all the following - Central Location 15 mins walk from the Wall Great service Fantastic beers brewed on location Good food, menu could be a bit more extensive. Lovely room Lots of parking

Disappointed with overall service

Frankiedigger, Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom
Visited with wife, brother-in-law and sister-in-law after Vindolanda trip. Opted for refreshments at Vindolanda and lunch at TB. Bar staff appear completely untrained. New attached Brew House excellent new feature, but two pints were served which were clearly ’off’ (cloudily is a better description!) After bar staff advised us ’it was fine’ it wasn’t and another member of staff replaced the drinks and took that pump off sale. No attempt to offer anything beyond the food served e.g. more or sweet choice or further drinks. General lack of interest permeates the staff. Fantastic setting and longstanding reputation is being squandered by lack of attention by owners to basic training which permeates British hospitality these days. Will return hoping improvements have been applied but not too optimistic.

Nice pub

We stayed one night here,Nice rooms but very small. We shared a room with two single beds. Was very compact.Just had room to get out of bed, 5em up a stair to the bathroom.Which had a bath and shower in it,It was adequate for one night. But too small if staying longer. We ate in th evening in the restaurant.Food was good.Staff very Nice and friendly.Breakfast was also good.

The best stay along Hadrian's Wall path

elFonseca,
Comfortable bed, good food, craft beer and a bathtub in the bathroom, what more can you want while hiking the Hadrian's Wall path. Probably the best stays along it in fact. Staff was really nice and provided information on sites to see and bus schedules. The Sill, the ruins of Vindolanda and The Roman Army Museum are all within visiting distance and the Inn's brewery is just next door. They also offer a cleaning service, which really helped us get our clothes back in wearing shape.

Right beside Hadrian's Wall and close to Roman sites

Janet S, Saint John, Canada
I stayed here on my walk of the northern Pennines. After a rollercoaster walk from Greenhead I was ready to rest my feet. The bed was very comfortable. I had to ask to have the heat turned on. Apparently it is normally turned on around 6 PM but the staff was happy to turn it on earlier for me. The bar serves a number of yummy local ales.
