Perfect for walkers or just visiting the area

sallychips2016, Hawkley, United Kingdom
I was made to feel very welcome on arrival here. My room was extremely comfortable - with a bath which is great for walkers. The bar area is good for both drinking and just relaxing in, they also have large garden/patio area outside. Both suppers and breakfasts were served promptly. If you have time it's a must to walk/take bus to Vindolanda Roman Fortress site which is about a mile away

Great lunch and beer

Foodgoorou, Aberdeen, United Kingdom
My wife and I came here after a visit to the wall. Was a nice sunny day so we sat in their beer garden outside with the dog. Yes, this place is very dog friendly. Staff here are nice. Food is generous so hope you're hungry! Worry trying some of their own brews. Some absolute gems in there! It's a pay parking outside but you can claim it back off your food which is a good idea.

Large and roomy, great food

Maria O, Chester, United Kingdom
We were here for dinner as part of a large group of walkers with good appetites, who all enjoyed the experience. We'd pre-ordered our meals so there was no waiting around. Food was excellent and well presented. I loved my home-made veggie ravioli. Good job I hadn't ordered dessert as the main was very substantial! This place is more of a restaurant than a pub, but is huge and has a brewery on site, so lots of interesting local beers for those who like that kind of thing ;)

A really great pub

Hoverstop, Lincolnshire, United Kingdom
Came here for an evening meal whilst walking the Wall, because our B&B did not provide one. We had not booked, and a very large party were just about to sit down for dinner - but we were welcomed and invited to sit down anywhere we could find a space. The "Sycamore Gap" beers went down a treat, our traditional Prawn Cocktail was generous and tasty, and the Steak and Ale Pie (shin of beef braised for 23 [or was it 27?] hours was sensationally good. The friendly staff were super efficient throughout. A memorable experience of what a pub meal should be.

Tired and a bit chaotic - great location, though

Geossica, Glasgow, United Kingdom
I stayed here for one night while walking Hadrian’s Wall. The room was a little tired compared to other hotels in a similar price range. It could do with a bit of a revamp, particularly the bathroom which had an odd smell (damp? Drains?). That said, it was fairly comfortable and is in a great location for weary walkers. I ate an evening meal in the bar. The younger staff could do with earning to smile at and engage with customers. Things felt a bit chaotic and disorganised. The portions are huge. I wouldn’t rave about the food but it was tasty enough and there was plenty of it. Breakfast was even more disorganised. I suspect they were caught on the hop by so many guests descending at the same time. That said, the staff kept their cool, smiled, and took the time to check that guests were happy. The eggs benedict with salmon was tasty.
