Festival of the North East launches a jam-packed programme of events for June 2013 that celebrates the creativity and innovation of the North East.

From the very big to the very small, for people of every age to experience and join in with, Festival of the North East will embrace arts and science, heritage and history and industry and technology, making it one of the largest and most eclectic festivals in the UK. It includes exciting new commissions from many of the region’s major cultural organisations, as well as work from individual artists and local communities.

Festival of the North East was born out of a truely regional approach. Kathryn Tickell, Northumbrian piper and composer began to talk to others in the region. The news that the Lindisfarne Gospels would be returning to the region from July to September 2013 provided the impetus to create a month-long celebration of North East creativity and innovation throughout June, to herald their arrival.
