Tughall Grange Farm, Chathill, Northumberland, NE67 5EN

Situated in a small wood on Tughall Grange Farm, the site is a 10 minute walk/2 minute drive from the water sports mecca of Beadnell Beach and a Northumberland Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, a 30 minute drive into the cheviots, and an hour away from Newcastle.  It has a rarefied situation in feeling totally secluded and immersed in nature yet still very accessible.  Popular cycle routes, iconic hiking trails, and modern touring routes such as the Northumberland 250 are all on its doorstep.  A light easterly breeze carries with it the scent and (if conditions allow) sounds of the sea, whilst the sunsets over the Cheviots have an almost Alpenglow quality.

The single bedroom cabins, named after the tree species in the wood, provide everything you need (and nothing you don’t) for a short or long-term stay, encouraging you to get the most out of the great Northumbrian Outdoors. They come with kitchens, wood burning stoves, luxurious yet minimal en suite toilet/shower facilities and king-sized beds.  Large windows with built-in seating, double doors and covered porches allow for moments of calm reflection whatever the rugged Northumbrian elements throw at you.

Their design is simple, contemporary and modern, bordering on elemental.  A clean platform from which to enjoy nature unfettered with the clutter and bustle of modern life. Their design is informed by the beach shacks and fisherman’s sheds that are dotted along the Northumbrian coast.

Whilst structurally identical, each cabin has a different relationship with its surroundings, allowing for unique connections with their immediate vicinities:

ASH – Situated amongst ancient ash trees, it is bathed in the scattered light as the suns’ rays filter through the canopy.

HAWTHORN – Interposed between the banks of the Tughall Burn and flanked by Ash, Horse Chestnut and Hawthorn.  You can see the highest peak in the Cheviots from this cabin, and the sunsets can be spectacular.

WILLOW – Opening out to a shaded stream-side glade covered by gently rustling willow, this cabin also offers panoramic rural views across the fields.  Predominantly South facing, the light from this cabin is consistently excellent, and is very shaded from the wind.
