Staff at a leading Newcastle law firm will take to their bikes in one of the UK’s most respected and established cycling events, the Virgin Money Cyclone Festival of Cycling.
Nine Sintons staff have already signed up to take part in the Virgin Money Cyclone Challenge, a non-competitive bike ride which takes place on Saturday June 20. Team Sintons are raising money for the Tiny Lives Trust, a charity supporting the Special Care Baby Unit at Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary.
Team Sintons raised over £4,000 for charity in the Virgin Money Cyclone Challenge last year and they are hoping for their best ride yet when the event opens at Newcastle Falcons Rugby Club in Kingston Park next week. Over 30% of those cyclists who have already entered the 2015 Virgin Money Cyclone Challenge are opting to use their pedal-power to raise vital funds for charity, both here in the region and nationwide.
Sintons Employment Solicitor, Catherine McNulty, said of the event: “The Virgin Money Cyclone has fast become a fixture of the Sintons calendar. Some of us will be taking part for the first time, while others are riding the Challenge route for the third year running. It is great to do something together as colleagues while feeling the fitness benefit too.
“Newcastle is fast becoming a cycling city as more people seek out greener modes of transport. We look forward to the day lawyers might cycle to a meeting in town, but for now we’re focusing all efforts on a great Virgin Money Cyclone festival weekend for our charity, Tiny Lives.”
Virgin Money Cyclone Festival of Cycling Founder and Organiser, Peter Harrison, said: “About 30% of people who sign up to ride the Virgin Money Cyclone use their participation to raise money for charity. Businesses like Sintons can get a team together for their chosen charity and get their entries in before June 10 to be part of the Challenge.”
Aspiring cyclists of all ages and abilities are encouraged to join a Virgin Money Cyclone Challenge ride to mark the path of the touring professionals. The non-competitive Challenge rides trace much of the route of the elite cyclists in accessible 34, 64 and 106 mile events.
The Virgin Money Cyclone Festival of Cycling returns to Newcastle and Northumberland June 19 – 21. For full event information and to register yourself or a team by June 10, visit www.virginmoneycyclone.co.uk
