Winter break

raymondoNewcastle, newcastle
Stayed here for first time in March. Lovely hotel with caring staff. Bedroom was great with good toiletries and above average tea coffee facilities.Had the taster menu asked not to see the menu as we wanted each course to be a surprise and it was in a delightful way. Breakfast was equally as good and all of the staff were friendly and very efficient. Had a drink in the bar both nights and it was quietly relaxing, even a couple of morning papers to read. Definately not a noisy bar and never heard any noise in our room at night. Not far from kielder, hexham or corbridge. This hotel deserves it high rating but whilst we were there light meals or sandwiches were not available throughout the day.

We have just returned from a lovely two day break at Battlesteads Hotel in Wark. This place is fantastic, we had the eight course taster menu on the first night and the food was delicious with wonderful flavours. Every member of staff was so friendly and helpful. We would definitely like to stay there again.

Absolutely fabulous stay to celebrate our Anniversary. Stayed in Lodge 19 which was perfect and very comfortable. A great dog friendly hotel with all staff very efficient and helpful. Nice bar and lounge to relax in with the food very good. Would highly recommend the 8 course taster menu. Excellent short break and perfect location to visit Hadrian's Wall

Amazing Stay

Booked the 2 night B&B with taster menu deal for a birthday treat. Beautiful old building in a picturesque village. Very well maintained with ample parking for guests. Its an ecologically friendly hotel with most of its foodstuffs locally sourced / home grown in the extensive gardens. Check-in quick, efficient & welcoming. Had upgraded to a lodge which was HUGE!! Comfy super king bed, storage, seating area & fantastic hospitality tray with delicious biscuits & fruit, plus a bathroom you could waltz in! Lovely little decking area with seating so you could enjoy the night sky. All spotless inside & out. The lodges are a minutes walk from the main building but brollies are provided should it be raining. Main bar & restaurant are full of character & the food is delicious. The wine pairing matched the 8 course taster menu perfectly. Please note the menu on the hotels website is not the same as what you are served - was a bit disappointed as we had drooled over the menu when we had booked, but the alternative was very nice. Ate in the hotel's restaurant on our second night too & the a la carte menu is lovely & food tasty. A great selection of hot & cold food served at breakfast as well. All staff are welcoming, chatty & friendly. Would definitely recommend & visit again. Thank you

Spent 2 nights at this hotel recently as a Christmas gift from our daughter. The room was small and a bit tired and dated but very clean. We were above the bar so it was noisy each night until closing time. On arrival we were met by a rude male member of staff. He was barely able to say hello to us and questioned our booking for the tasting menu asking if we had an email to prove it had been booked. It was not a pleasant welcome and this set the tone for our stay. Most of the male staff were off hand and not particularly friendly with the older male staff member being rude. The female staff, particularly the housekeeping staff were very friendly and pleasant. The tasting menu wasn’t worth the money and was very disappointing. Would certainly not recommend it. We had breakfast on both mornings. The food was fine but we felt rushed and male waiting staff again unfriendly and offhand. We booked to visit the observatory on our first night and found James to be very informative and enthusiastic in his presentation. He was a lovely young man and we learned a lot however due to the poor visibility that night we were unable to use either binoculars or telescopes to look at the sky. The management could maybe consider a partial refund in this situation. On leaving the same bad mannered individual checked us out. We weren’t asked if we enjoyed our stay and didn’t get even a goodbye as we left. Have never had such a poor experience with a staff member and it spoilt our stay to an extent. For this reason we will not return and could not recommend.
