Comfortable room

Millymollymandy28, Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom
The negatives - light under door from corridor; squeaky floorboards in corridor were noisy; I'm vegan so breakfast wasnt the best for me and items weren't labelled, I left too early to ask about a cooked breakfast. Positives - clean room, nicely decorated, choice of tea and coffee, fresh fruit, toiletries supplied. Had an excellent night sleep. I would imagine the beer garden is lovely in the summer, unfortunately it was -6 when I stayed. Overall I had a lovely stay and would happily stay again. Would like to see some vegan things on menu though.

Great hotel

Simply a great hotel if you want a couple of days away, with the added advantage of having the Dark Sky Observatory on its grounds. We stayed here for three nights with our dog, staff made up a table so the dog could be with us while we ate morning and night, great real fire in the bar area which our dog laid in front of most of the time as it was vey cold outside. Nothing every was to much trouble for the staff, plus because they knew we were bringing the dog he had a packet with treats and his own towel in the room.

Lovely hotel for a special stay in the Dark Skies Countryside

For a special occasion, our party of 4 stayed in the Luxury Lodges which we all thought were pretty amazing, spacious, well-designed and very comfortable - we particularly liked the spa bath. The hotel staff were very charming and helpful without being over solicitous. We all had the 8 course taster menu which was generally superb, although the vegetarian version was a bit cheese reliant. I would also say that if you are attending a 9pm Observatory Session, and you have smokers/vapers in your party who might slow things down, then perhaps opt for the 5 course taster as you might find yourself cutting it fine (although you can have your remaining courses afterwards). Service was excellent and unhurried, and we also had a lovely breakfast on the following day. Although we did have a cloudy night which negated the Dark Skies experience, it was nonetheless very informative and enjoyable, and special mention to the young astronomer (Nick?) who very well on his first session. I did have some issues with the booking procedures but the Hotel was very accommodating in resolving these. Overall, an overwhelmingly positive experience and I would be very happy to return (hopefully on a clear sky night), also remember to buy a bottle of the fabulous in-house gin.

Stayed in the lodge, very cosy and clean, however our blinds were broken,it wasn't a problem, but we came last year and everything was perfect, don't let small things like this start to build up, or your perfect reputation may suffer, excellent staff and amazing food, observatory evening was great also, even though the stars didn't shine for us due to low cloud, we still learnt an awful lot

One of the best hotels we have stayed in

gaudiemoo, Insch, United Kingdom
This hotel is amazing. The food was fantastic with lots of locally sourced ingredients including some grown in the kitchen garden. The atmosphere was relaxed and the staff were very friendly and welcoming. The room was super comfortable and we loved the little touches like a bowl of fruit and activity bags in our room for the children. We appreciate and were extremely impressed by the hotels environmental commitment. Definitely coming back for another visit. Stay here if you get a chance.... and there's an observatory
