Beautiful tasting dinner

jake37, Oxford, United Kingdom
We stayed for 2 nights and very much enjoyed our 8 course tasting dinner, room had everything we could want, very good shower power to. We also booked the Observatory 2 hour evening visit, it was disappointing on a couple of things, 6 people had booked for 8.30 and we waited until 8.15, we were just going to the hotel to check what was happening, but the man said its at 9pm, all our paper work said 8.30pm, sadly their was to much cloud and we could not see anything, The man gave us a very good talk for 50 minutes, which we really enjoyed. Then he said we might as well go , as he was going to teach the other 4 people who had their own telescopes to put them together( which they already knew,) we would have liked to see and know how to work the very large scope that belonged to the observatory, so we felt, a bit flat. We really enjoyed the hotel, but would choose another observatory next time we go.

Comfortable rooms and helpful staff

Bridget M, Crondall, United Kingdom
We recently returned to The Battlesteads Hotel for three nights while fishing on the North Tyne. Their lodges are well appointed and very comfortable with a lovely touch of fresh biscuits and fruit. The bathroom is huge with a spa bath and an excellent shower. The food is very good and plentiful although the menu doesn't seem to vary all that much. I stupidly left behind some jewellery and this was found immediately and sent home to me for which I am extremely grateful. Definitely worth a visit.

Nice rooms and food, observatory great. Let down by attention to detail in service

Paul R, Holmfirth, United Kingdom
My wife & I stayed at the hotel specifically to visit the observatory. We had real issues with getting the taster menu we had pre-paid for though & would not recommend anyone book this option. We told the hotel about this at the time of booking, then at check-in, again when the chef phoned to ask if we wanted to book a table in the restaurant (when we had already booked one), again on being taken to our table and we then questioned why the menu appeared to be a-la-carte. We enjoyed a nice meal, albeit not a 'taster' and were then provided with a bill for the a-la-carte meal. When we questioned this there was all-around bemusement as to why we hadn't made it clear that is what we wanted! How many times we needed to have stated that, who knows, clearly more than 5 times is necessary. The hotel credited us for the value of the taster, but the reality is we didn't get what we expected and then had to pay more for what was provided instead. We felt irritated and just a little bit conned. To add insult to injury, sorting it out also made us late to the observatory visit, so we missed the introduction.

Weekend stay with pup

Shannon S,
Just returned from a one night stay at battlesteads. We had the dog friendly lodge, the room itself is fantastic, very roomy and a very impressive bathroom, the doggy delivery of towels, blankets food and treats was adorable and made me feel very comfortable to have our puppy with us. I thought the drinks at the bar was a bit pricey (£10 for 2 drinks) but the lounge was very cosy and welcoming. The evening meal was average, not blown away but nice enough to fill us, I was pretty sure on our booking we had the 8 course taster included however we were told there would be a £10 charge for us to have that menu which I didn’t really understand because when booking we paid extra for the 8 course taster. I was also super disappointed we had to pay to just wander into the observatory, I assumed being guests and this being one of the hotels main attractions we would be able to go in free of charge. Breakfast was lovely and staff were very attentive and kind.

Fab night away with amazing food

Jo W,
Thank you Battlesteads for such a super night away. Spacious clean lodge, fab spa bath and a huge bed! Evening meal was just simply awesome, great to chat with the chef and get his recommendations, honestly think it's the best dessert I've ever had - thanks Chef! Service with a smile throughout from every single one of your team. A memorable stay and I'm sure we'll be back xx
