Overview

Visitors to Corbridge Roman Town can walk along the main street of this Roman garrison town, flanked by the remains of granaries, a fountain house, markets, workshops and temples.

Astride the intersection of Roman Dere Street and Stanegate, Corbridge was initially the site of a series of important forts. But after Hadrian's Wall was fully commissioned it developed into a prosperous town, a tempting leave-centre for off-duty Wall garrisons.

Today, you can still walk through the town's streets and experience a time-capsule of Roman life. You can also discover Roman armour and trinkets uncovered with the Corbridge Hoard at the museum. The Hoard was one of the most significant finds in Roman history, providing us with a fascinating insight into the life of a soldier on the Wall. The museum is also home to the Corbridge Collection, the largest of the Hadrian's Walls collections.

A very interesting site.

Enjoyed a guided tour of the site from an English Heritage guide. Really helped to bring the fort to life. The attached museum was also very interesting with the Corbridge Lorica Segmentata on display. Well worth a visit. Really enjoyed it.

If you have a good imagination and studied, the layout before you come you will find it very interesting, otherwise it was only an interesting place to visit, as the signage did not explain in much detail. Great pictures from overhead though where you can really see the layout clearly

wonderful place, superb museum full of information and artefacts relating to Corbridge. The town itself is fascinating but do take the audio guide to get the most out of it.

Fascinating visit

Have visited here many moons ago as a young child in the 1960s. It now boasts a very informative museum with plenty of 'finds' on show including the famous Corbridge lion & an amazing silver tray. A hand held audio tour gave lots of information whilst touring the ruins. Very atmospheric - makes you want to go & excavate all the fields round about!
