Locally produced in Northumberland

Locally sourced in Northumberland

No holiday in Northumberland is complete without sampling the mouth-watering delicacies that our county has to offer. Whether it's tucking into a hearty Northumberland breakfast, enjoying a romantic candlelit meal or packing up a picnic of local produce there are some unique culinary experiences to be enjoyed during your stay.

Northumberland's culinary traditions were developed through the generations. From the monks at Lindisfarne to the kitchens of the great castles and country houses, through to the gardens of the shepherd's cottage and allotments of the miner's terrace, the food heritage of Northumberland is rich, varied and very much alive.

We love a cup of tea in Northumberland, the birthplace of Earl Grey and his namesake drink, and we have an array of cafes for you to experience. To go with your cuppa you really must try a cake or chocolate from a local artisan producer. For those a little hungrier we’ve got some fantastic places for a light snack or belly busting crab 'stottie' sandwich.

Restaurants can be high profile or quietly tucked away on a cobbled street just waiting to be discovered. Either way you won’t be disappointed. Northumberland is packed with attractive pubs offering a warm welcome, freshly brewed ale from one of the county’s microbreweries as well as gin, rum and mead all made in Northumberland, it’s no wonder visitors keep coming back for more.

Proud of our Northumbrian produce, the Produced in Northumberland verification scheme guarantees you authentic Northumberland food and drink. As well as producers, an increasing number of Bed & Breakfasts are also members of the scheme. But don’t just take our word for it, look out for the distinctive Produced in Northumberland logo and try some of our fabulous local products. Take the taste of Northumberland home with you; jams, cheeses, liquor, ales, coffee, to name a few, are on sale throughout the county displaying the Produced in Northumberland logo with pride.
