Our early evening events are aimed to be fun and interesting to everyone, including families with younger children and for these events we offer reduced family tickets for two adults and two children. Introduction to Astronomy runs Wednesdays and Saturdays 5pm-7pm and in the school holidays we have Space Kids for the younger children.
They cover concepts such as navigating the sky or telescope workshops. Recommended ages are six years old and upwards. The focus of these events is on education and introducing the basics of astronomy, but if the skies are clear we may get the chance to glimpse the moon, a planet or maybe the sun depending on the season. You will still get to see our fantastic telescopes up close and the team will be on hand to answer everyone’s questions.

Your light airplane has crash landed in dense forest hundreds of miles from civilisation. It is bitterly cold and wet and there are grizzly bears in the forest; you need fire and shelter to get you through till the rescue teams arrive. How will you survive? You scavenge in the wreckage and find one or two things that might be useful. Solve the problems and stay alive! At the end of each stage the activity leaders will check to see how you are doing and at the end of the session you will discover how many of you made it through. The activity leader, Bruce Ferguson, is qualified through the Institute for Outdoor Learning to teach bushcrafts to groups and has been involved in bushcrafts and teaching woodland skills for over 30 years. All our leaders are DBS checked.
