The Inn has 18 ensuite bedrooms and is set amongst some of the most breath taking scenery in England, standing in the shadows of Steel Rigg, without doubt one of the most dramatic parts of Hadrian's Wall.   We serve locally sourced, home cooked food all day which can be enjoyed in our bar, "Twice Brewed", our restaurant, "Sycamore Gap" or in our beer garden. Please see our website for further details and menus.  Andy and Susan Smith and the Team look forward to welcoming you to the Inn.

Large parties, functions and coach parties all welcome - if you would like any further details please do not hesitate to get in touch, boking not always essential.

We have nearly completed the renovation of our Private Function Room which will be available to hire from June 2016 for weddings, Christenings, Birthdays, conferences and much, much more.  Please contact us for further information.

Surprisingly big and modern

We travelled up to Northumberland for a star gazing event at The Sill and booked overnight accommodation at Twice Brewed Inn. There was 9 of us so we booked a family room and two double rooms, one with a bed settee. It was a pleasant surprise when we arrived to find the Inn is situated right next door to The Sill and to discover how big, modern and roomy it is. We enjoyed an afternoon in the pub there, had a really great night sleep after our event and enjoyed a slap up full English breakfast in the morning. Would definitely recommend as a place to stay or just for food.

Sunday Lunch with our pet collie - Really Appreciated!

We'd set off from home to spend time at Rothbury in Northumberland but I'd always wanted to see 'Robin Hood's' Sycamore tree; along Hadrian's Wall near Vindolanda. Once we were close to the visitor's attraction, we asked a lady where we could get a hot drink. We were told that The Twice Brewed Inn was dog friendly; so decided to call in for a coffee. Well..... that turned into a fantastic, hot, tasty Sunday Lunch; because we couldn't resist! We managed to get the last table for 2, on offer, as the bar area was full of happy eaters/revellers/walkers/visitors to the area. Everyone was ordering dinners and desserts so, we joined them. The bar and waitressing staff were excellent and we were well looked after from start to finish; as was our pet dog. Would we recommend this Inn for a meal and a drink? Yes, Yes, Yes (The 'perfectionists' who write derogatory reviews will need to find somewhere to 'suit their very high standards' and leave this great, warm and welcoming Inn for the rest of us mere mortals - to enjoy); Please.

The pub is ideally located for Hadrian's wall and Vindolanda. It is a recently refurbished old stone building. Inside the decor is a modern country style with a faint odour of damp dog (Forgivable). At check in we were asked to specify what time we would require breakfast. Not the end fo the world but it would have been nice not to have had to set an alarm clock in order to be up early for what was supposed to be a relaxing weekend. The room itself was ample sized and bright. There was a small single wardrobe and a small dressing table with held a small mirror and a large tray with kettle and drinks. The bathroom was a shower, sink and loo with a tiny shelf below the mirror above the sink. Although the room still had that new refurbished cleanness to it, I don't think this will last long. Everything was dusty, the toilet was quite grubby on the outside, the soap, etc were all rusty around their tops and covered in white dust. Nothing was dreadful but unless the cleaner actually starts cleaning regularly then this lovely new refurbed atmosphere will not last long. There really isn't anything majorly wrong with the room but there are a few little niggles. There is nowhere in the bathroom to put a toiletries bag or room for toiletries. Similar issues with the main room. Everything is geared for what is there and not WILL be there such as guests items. Simple things such as a hook to hang up your coat were absent as were drawers. The biggest niggle, for us at least, was that it was a not a double bed. it was instead two single beds pushed together so of course there was that uncomfortable hard ridge in the middle. Not a problem per se but in truth we wouldn't have booked had we known. Breakfast was included in the price of the stay which is just as well because we certainly wouldn't have paid for it. The bacon was possibly good quality when it was bought but when it arrived on the plate it was thick, pale, covered in white residue and had the texture of rubber matting. Deeply unpleasant. The sausage was ok, nothing special but was fine as were the mushrooms. The beans, I didn't even know it was possible for there to be bad beans, apparently it is! Eggs were overcooked to the point of rubber. Tomato excellent. Black pudding, not great but ok. Toast was thick cut brown or white which you toasted yourself. Butter was rock hard in a dish on the table. Buttering the toast was certainly interesting! There was also a limited choice of cereal which seemed mainly geared to children. Full fat milk only, thick bread only and butter only. It was all so close but just missed the mark. I have to wonder, why make guests specify what time they want breakfast and have them order at the table from a menu if what is served has quite obviously been sitting in a dish keeping warm in the kitchen? I've had worse breakfasts but also had much better. Evening meal was dreadful. Ordered gammon and it arrived burnt. It had clearly been cooked on a dirty griddle and as a result it had a taste of burnt charcoal as did the pineapple. Both of our meals were were the same, it was truly awful. The meals were replaced without issue and we both has sausage and mash instead. It was ok, the online gravy left much to be desired though. Overall there seems to have been a theme throughout with a lack of cleanliness: Dog smell, dusty and dirty in the room, dirty griddle... If this is how the place is after a refurb then it's only going to go further downhill. A shame really because it has so much potential.

4 friends shared the family room. We had an evening meal which was wonderful. Room was comfortable and perfectly clean. Breakfast was high quality. Staff were all lovely. I'll be back. I can't recommend this place highly enough.

Out from the cold

After a little walk up hadrian's wall we pop in here to warm up and for some food, kids order the burger, the wife a vegetable casserole, myself a burger with bacon and cheese, all burgers arrived with chips, burger was really good, chips ok, kids and wife enjoyed there meals, will return on our next walk.
