Great stay

Andrew E,
We visited for our wedding anniversary. It was our first time at Matfen and we weren’t disappointed. The whole hotel and spa is extremely clean. We upgraded our room which had fantastic views over the gardens. The room was great and the size of the bathroom and it’s amenities fantastic. The food was delicious in the conservatory as well as the breakfast. All reasonably priced too. My wife had a treatment in the spa which was very refreshing too whilst I relaxed in the jacuzzi. Will definitely be recommending and visiting again soon for another stay or meal.

Spa day and night in the hotel

Visited in February of this year for my partner and I’s anniversary and experienced a beautiful spa afternoon with a 30 minute massage. The pool and sauna were incredibly relaxing and thoroughly enjoyed. The restaurant offered a vegan menu, from which we chose a 3 course meal. Both the food and service were exceptional. Would highly recommend and would love to visit again.

We stayed here for my sister's wedding, and it was amazing. Our family room was huge, with a super king size bed that we could all have slept comfortably on (though the kids did have their own bed!). It was clean and comfortable, with plenty of storage space and a separate bath and shower. The towels were huge and soft, robes were provided, there were biscuits and hot chocolate as well as tea and coffee, and there was even an iron and ironing board in the room (and in all other rooms according to the hotel, who replied very quickly to my email when I asked!). Breakfast was delicious, with a hot menu to choose from as well as a continental buffet. We ate in the Conservatory Bar the night before the wedding, which was also delicious. There is a pool and spa area in the hotel, which my husband and children were able to make use of while I was getting ready for the wedding. Families take note, children are only allowed in at certain times, which is understandable given that Matfen Hall offers spa days. Also bear in mind that the hotel is like a maze and very spread out - I got my 10,000 steps just walking between my room, the bride's and the wedding rooms! For anyone considering having their wedding here, I can highly recommend it. The Great Hall where the ceremony took place is breathtaking, with a beautiful stained glass window and a huge staircase for a grand (and rather nervewracking) entrance. The grounds are beautiful for photos (and for just wandering around), the wedding breakfast was delicious (I recommend the slow-cooked beef) and The Vault for the evening reception (including the cloisters with the fire pit) was a really original venue. Everything seemed to go very smoothly and the staff all seemed organised and friendly. I would love to stay here again, and wish we could have stayed longer this time!

My daughter was going to a wedding near Matfen hall and had no transport and decided we could stay at Matfen hall. We could drop her off and collect her and have a great night at a hotel. Had a lovely stay everyone helpful and polite and the surroundings absolutely beautiful. I love staying at hotels getting up and going for breakfast but was a bit disappointed. The coffee lovely but barely a cup in the pot and the breakfast was poor everything bland and a really strong tasting sausage nice in a main meal but not on a breakfast? Not a bean insight am I common or does everyone like a full English with a pot of beans??? Would definitely stay again as so tranquil and enjoyed the rest.

Beautiful break

Myself and my fiance have our wedding booked at Matfen Hall later this year. We currently live in Australia so made a trip back to England to view the venue and arrange our wedding. Check in was quick and easy and we stayed in an absolutely beautiful principle room overlooking the golf course. It was spotlessly clean and spacious, and I could have lived there forever. We had a tour of the wedding facilities by the wedding co-ordinator Victoria who was extremely friendly and helpful and put all of our worries at ease - we honestly could not have organised this wedding without her. The renovated east wing is absolutely beautiful and I can't wait for our wedding day just so we can see it all again! We enjoyed a delicious menu tasting in the evening and another lovely breakfast the following morning. We used the gym facilities which were well maintained with a lot of different cardio and strength machines available. We had a beautiful break in the country side and cannot wait to return in July.
