Built by the first Earl of Tankerville in the 1700’s, the hotel was originally designed to accommodate ‘spare’ guests from Chillingham Castle. The inns location between London and Edinburgh meant it became a posting house before the opening of the rail line.

The historic stone built town of Wooler is nestled at the foothills of the Cheviot Hills and set within the beautiful Northumberland National Park. A walker’s paradise, the hills around Wooler are scattered with ancient hillforts, waterfalls and an abundance of wildlife including red squirrels, deer and birds of prey.

The hotel is centrally located for visiting the meandering rivers, hills and valleys of Harthope, College and Ingram as well as the castles and beaches of Alnwick, Bamburgh, Holy Island and Dunstanburgh.

Whether seeking an escape into nature or a tranquil respite in a historic setting, the Tankerville Arms Hotel is a destination many guests return back to year after year.
