Afternoon tea..

Sue H,
Visited today and had afternoon tea. very unimpressed with the experience. sat in a large room with no atmosphere staff were very un attentive and food was ok but scones tasted very odd they had a very strange aftertaste and served with blackcurrant jam and a very small amount of clotted cream and only 1 scone each. considering the size and impressive surroundings we was very dissapointed. liquorice macaroons have to be the weirdest combination i have ever had. staff were very impersonal such a shame

Beautiful Rooms, outstanding dining

Took my partner for her Birthday and upgraded to a 4 poster room with champagne on arrival. The room was large and to a very high standard. The grounds beautiful to walk around as was the rest of the hotel and we also enjoyed the spa facilities. Staff were attentive and friendly but the best thing about our Sunday night stay was the food which was nothing short of outstanding a to the highest standards, this included the breakfast the following morning.

Didn't live up to the package!

I had high expectations for Doxford after it being recommended to us. After quite a few disappointments and spending quite a lot of money we emailed the manager who has not had the courtesy to respond. It was a 30th birthday celebration but we booked the babymoon for one night then booked an extra night. We stayed in the coach house and as part of the package it should have included breakfast in the room. On arrival however after we queried it, they told us this was not possible. They did offer a room in the main house however we had already got settled in and for the price there should have been some extra note of the website about this. There was no info about how to redeem our cream tea as part of the package or any info about the hotel in the room. Again we had to chase these both with reception. My husband tried to book some surprise treats for the room and found this difficult. Again he tried to book some spa treatments but they wouldn't talk through or suggest any treatments for me so he did not know what to book. For all the lovely pictures showing desserts specially decorated for anniversaries or birthdays they wrote on the dining list about my birthday and did not so much as wish me a happy birthday. The food was lovely but the menu was small and options very limited for pregnancy related diet. The actual place was lovely but for a luxury pampering babymoon it did not cater for pregnant ladies who went there to be pampered. It was constant small disappointments. They did knock breakfast off our bill but had it ruined the whole point behind the babymoon for us. The fact that the manager hasn't replied prompted me to post this.

Beautiful Hotel

Stayed one night. Arrived early and had a massage. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. Evening meal was outstanding. The food was cooked to perfection. Service was excellent, not rushed or felt pressurised in any way. Overall package was excellent value with the use of all the facilities.

New Year treat!!!

We booked a 3 night stay at Doxford Hall spa hotel at an amazing price of £85 a night for bed and breakfast. A fantastic deal! The hotel is quite hard to find on the quiet country roads of Northumberland, but very near the A1 and a perfect location for touring the coast and area. First impressions on arrival were......WOW! Doxford Hall is beautiful, set in tranquil landscaped grounds, maintained to a very high standard, with a yew tree maze and walks from the doorstep. After an easy check in by pleasant staff we were shown the way to our very sumptuous room. A beautiful large bedroom overlooking the gardens, all clean and well decorated with a huge bathroom. Plenty of Moulton Brown toiletries left each day and a generous supply of hot drink sachets and bottled water. The breakfasts and all other food eaten in the hotel was of an excellent qualify, nicely presented and served professionally by polite waiting staff. The spa at Doxford is lovely and a real plus point, swim, sauna, steam room and jacuzzi ticked all the boxes after a day out walking and touring the coast. The whole hotel was hard to fault, from the decor, Christmas decorations still up, nice quiet relaxation areas to sit and read, take afternoon tea or sip a cocktail from the bar. All the staff from the cleaning ladies , waitresses\waiters, bar staff to the senior staff deserve praise and thanks for making Doxford Hall the place to stay in Northumberland. We would love to return again one day........ I'm already missing the pool!
