Thursday 28th August 3pm - Thursday 18th 4pm | Nr Yeavering
From 28th August to 18th September 2025, join Ad Gefrin, The Gefrin Trust, and Durham University as we return to Yeavering – the original site of Gefrin, the royal summer palace of 7th-century Kings and Queens - to continue archaeological excavations.
Discover the focus of this year’s excavations, the Grandstand, a key ceremonial and public area, through daily talks, guided tours, and the chance to meet the archaeologists uncovering Northumbria’s past.
Why not visit our Museum and Great Hall to brush up on your knowledge before heading up to Yeavering for a tour of the site? The tours are led by one of our museum guides who will provide an orientation before being handed over to one of the on-site archaeologists. Tours commence at 3 pm each day at Yeavering, and an optional donation of £5 is suggested, with all proceeds supporting future research.
Accessibility: Uneven terrain at Yeavering.
