Further 2024 locations are yet to be confirmed, please check back soon for future Illuminated Sheep appearances.
Discover the enchanting world of Illuminated Sheep, a captivating art project conceived by Deepa Mann-Kler and brought to life by Queen's Hall Arts in 2022. This imaginative endeavor featured life-size model Texel sheep, adorned with mesmerising lighting effects synchronised with a specially composed soundscape by Cathal Murphy.
The illuminated sheep made their debut appearances at iconic locations like Bamburgh Castle, Roman Vindolanda, and Woodhorn Museum, leaving visitors in awe. Afterward, they embarked on separate adventures across Northumberland, where local community groups adopted them, named them, dressed them up, and took them on whimsical journeys. The heartwarming reunion of this flock, bedecked in all their glory, took place at the Festival of Flame event at Hexham Abbey in December 2022, drawing nearly 3,000 delighted visitors in a single night.
Now, thanks to generous funding from NTCA, these radiant sheep have received a fresh lighting and spatial audio treatment. They are set to make appearances as an illuminated flock at various locations throughout the region, as well as participating in a community project at one of the region's most historically significant sites.
