Thursday 9th July - Monday 4th August 2025 | 10:00 - 17:00 | Ad Gefrin
From July 9th to August 4th, Ad Gefrin will host an exclusive exhibition of hand-crafted furniture made from retired whisky barrels by Inverness-based artisans Darach, run by Tony and Mairi Oakley.
Darach, named after the Gaelic word for “oak,” is a small, family-run business in the Scottish Highlands. Tony and Mairi transform spent oak whisky casks into sustainable, functional, and beautiful furniture and gifts.
Darach was born from a passion. Around 16 years ago, while working in a carpenter’s workshop, Tony noticed that many old whisky casks were being discarded as firewood. Inspired, he began experimenting with making small items from the casks in his garage. Meanwhile, Mairi researched demand for such pieces, and after attending a few craft fairs and their first trade show in Glasgow in 2012, they realised there was a strong market for their work.
Since then, Darach has built a loyal network of stockists who share their commitment to quality and service.
This special exhibition offers a rare chance to see and purchase a wide selection of Darach’s pieces under one roof. Items included in the exhibition range from benches, storage and shelving units, barrel bars, coat stands, chairs, and coffee tables, to name just a few.
All items will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis and can be taken away immediately. Many of the larger items will be limited, with only one for sale throughout the entire exhibition.
