The Treehouse Restaurant is one of the most magical and unique restaurants to be found anywhere in the world – high up in the treetops, with a roaring log fire in the centre of the room and trees growing through the floor. Most importantly, the locally-inspired food is delicious.
Always featuring local fish and seafood, meats from Northumberland’s farmlands and other regional specialities, the Treehouse Restaurant menus highlight local quality, taste and change throughout the seasons. There’s a great wine list, a good range of beers and regular live music.
For a family dining experience that you’ll all enjoy, a great night out with friends or a romantic dinner for two, there’s nowhere quite like it. We always recommend booking ahead for lunch or dinner - email us at or call 01665 511852 to arrange your booking. Please visit for menus and full opening times.
(Please note that visitors to the Treehouse Restaurant only do not require a general Garden admission ticket.)

Pricy but quirky

We stopped here for Sunday lunch. We were advised to book in advance but the restaurant wasnt full during our time there so I think we could have just turned up. The service was really quite slow and although our waitress was friendly, I would have expected her to offer us more drinks or update us on why things were taking so long rather than us chasing her. The food was really tasty but in my opinion some dishes were quite expensive - a bit of smoked salmon to start was £12! The roasts were really good and the veggies well cooked and the puddings were delicious. It was a really quirky "building" and great for a one off but I wouldn't necessarily rush back.

Living on fame

Our first time staying in Alnwick although have visited on several occasions in the past. We thought it would be rude not to cram in a visit to this famed venue! Visually the tree house is large and interesting but once inside it quickly looses its interest it is dark with absolutely no interaction or feeling that you are actually in a treehouse. The windows are tiny and the views out from the restaurant basically overlook the car park, what a waste! given the vast acreage of the Northumberland Estates. The menu was fairly restrictive, the service OK. and some of the menu choices didn't arrive with all the ingredients on the menu and portions were small. Although you could have purchased additional side dishes at a price but we were not advised that we would need to. The price was pretty average for a restaurant early evening meal but for what we were served it was fairly expensive. Basically this restaurant/bistro/cafe is living on hype and footfall to the Castle and Garden certainly not worth a visit if you want a good quality meal. There are much better restaurants in the town centre

Certainly A Life Experience, BUT PRICEY!

We visited the Treehouse for an evening meal whilst visiting the Alnwick area. Having been pre-warned to book in advance due to how popular the restaurant is we booked about 2-3 weeks in advance. We probably didn't need to in all honesty. When I say it's a once in a lifetime experience I do truly mean it. On approach to the restaurant you'll be amazed at the design and thought that's gone into this place, Extremely cool! The interior design is something straight out of a fairy tale, very unique! I can only assume they pre-warn people to pre-book well in advance because of the size of the restaurant. It's not by any means small, but you wouldn't be fitting several hundred people in there anytime soon, but I guess that adds to the experience. The staff were incredibly welcoming and friendly and their service was excellent. The menu was very small to be honest but the food was extremely good. Definitely went for quality over quantity when it came to the menu. The one and only fault with this place was the pricing on some of the meals! Crazy. They have something extremely unique going for them there and I think they know they can get away with some steep prices. We weren't bothered about paying premium prices because to be honest the experience made up for it. We both had the chicken caesar salad to start, which although very nice......£12 each. I had the pork belly for my main whilst my partner had the chicken pie. Both of our mains were very nice! Highly recommend. I'd seen some poor reviews about the pie on Trip Advisor but my partner really enjoyed it. However......both mains were about £18 each. We then shared a cheese board for our dessert, which was again very nice and just about enough to share portion wise but again.....£12. Our bill for a 2 1/2 courses each and 2 drinks each was £90 which we thought was pretty damn expensive. Overall if you don't mind paying premium prices for a sit down meal definitely visit the Treehouse, it's a once in a lifetime experience. You'll be sat there glancing around in ore of the interior design. If you prefer a more budget friendly restaurant then maybe this isn't the place for you.

Better than expected..

Enjoyed it here. Fabulous surroundings but pretty good food too..Despite what Id read on here the staff were great; we weren't rushed at all and the service was super. We were offered tap water and this was refilled without us having to ask and other drinks were reasonably priced. Portion sizes are not enormous. I haven't a big appetite so was fine but if you like to fill up you might need all three courses. Menu options are limited as there are no daily specials but I enjoyed my aubergine curry was great and my wife enjoyed the duck. Def recommend

Lunchtime at the Treehouse

This was recommended by a friend who said "you just have to go there" - so we did. We were told to book and we are pleased that we did as we couldn't get in for several days and they only had two time slots available online. The waiter knew his wine and gave us a couple of options - so we had one of each -as a couple. The "trimmings" on the goats cheese salad starter were a bit bland and there wasn't too much cheese but it was OK. Main courses and puds - spot on! Ordered a coffee which failed to materialise... Two gripes. Staff who spray from a few feet above the table the stuff that they clean with. They should spray it on the cloth to avoid overspray getting in the food on other tables ...saying that most places do it...not just here. Personally, we didn't like the fact that people were drifting in to the restaurant just to use the loos whilst having a gawp round and staring at what we were eating, as we were fairly near the door. Some people came in to take a photo which was a bit "off" when people are eating. A good insight to what its like being an animal in a zoo - photos at feeding time. Other than that - a unique experience with nice food and drink and pleasant staff. It was an unhurried experience but not in a bad way - I think that we were the last in but they didn't try to rush us along which was nice.
