Overview

The Duke of Wellington Inn is nestled in the Tyne valleys village of Newton just off the A69 near Corbridge, within easy access to Newcastle, Hadrian’s Wall Country, Hexham and Northumberland’s National Park. The inn has recently reopened following an extensive refurbishment. The new décor reflects the traditional country inn history but with a modern twist. Existing oak and stone has been enhanced with modern colours, furniture and fabrics. Lunches and dinners are served seven days a week in the bar and dining room.

The food provides traditional British comfort eating to an exceptional standard and makes use of local, seasonal ingredients. A comprehensive range of beers and ales compliments an extensive wine list. The inn experience continues with seven bedrooms providing a very high quality of luxury accommodation. There is an internal cycle and golf club store along with a boot room for those visitors who favour a less relaxing country break. The outstanding views across the Tyne valley provide the ultimate conclusion to a visit to the Duke of Wellington which will stay with you long after you leave.

Great food and dog friendly

Foodgoorou, Aberdeen, United Kingdom
Came here for a late (4ish) lunch and was surprised to see that they were still serving food. Godsend as we were starving after a long walk. We were the only people there so clear that it wasnt a usual service time. However the staff were extremely friendly and accommodating. They allow dogs into the bar eating area which is great. Food here is very good. I had their fish risotto and my wife had their fish supper. Both very good and generous portions too. They've got an extensive gin collection as well with proper tonic. Worth a glass if you're in the area. The village itself is worth a little stroll around after food. Wont take you 10 minutes but nice to stretch the legs. If you're in the area this place is worth a visit.

Actively ignored

H7173ZFjamess, Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom
Since last we were there, the price has gone up and the quality of service has gone down. Being in a large group, we had to put an order in a fortnight earlier and still had to wait an hour to be served. This is a problem when there were two diabetics in the group that didn't help matters. We were actively ignored from the start. The staff didn't bring us menus until we asked them (as two people hadn't ordered) and they didn't clear the table away until we had to ask them to. The only person who was good was the bar tender, and it seems like he's been there for a while. A large portion of the table were having steak, which isn't difficult to cook and doesn't justify the time we waited especially as most of the orders were made two weeks in advance. This disappoints me more than anything because the first time we were there they were really good. What worries me more than anything is that the fire exit behind us was obstructed by a table and wasn't properly marked. The green sign above the door wasn't visible as it was behind a wooden beam. The only way to see it was to stand directly under it and look up.

Good Sunday Lunch excellent views

stylerhaywood,
We called ahead as we were a group of eight and asked for a table at short notice, very helpful and a table was available. The staff were friendly and service good, the food was plentiful and tasty at a fair price.
