Two Northumberland villages named among places to live in the countryside

Two north Northumberland villages have been named among the top 50 best places to live in the countryside.

Both Bamburgh and Eglingham made the list as part of The Sunday Times Best Places to Live guide.

The beauty spots’ positive community spirit, good local shops and access to attractive outdoor spaces were praised, while Bamburgh received the title of Britain’s best countryside place to live by the sea.

Other locations in the North of England to make the list were Barnard Castle, in County Durham, Cartmel and Kirby Lonsdale, in Cumbria, and Helmsley, Runswick Bay and Welburn, in North Yorkshire.

The top 50 countryside locations are chosen by combining data and statistics such as crime rates, house prices and school performance, along with the local knowledge of writers.
