Terrifying trails and spooky crafts A haunting Halloween with the National Trust

Enjoy Halloween with the National Trust and experience some spine-chilling thrills at some unforgettable places. From potion trails to witch hunts and pumpkin parades, there’s something to give the whole family the jitters.

Here’s a selection of ghoulish goings on with the National Trust this Halloween in Northumberland…

Cragside, Rothbury, Northumberland

Witch hunt, pumpkin carving, parades and spooky workshop

Can you track down Nellie the witch and her frightening friends? Follow the witch hunt trail in and around the Labyrinth. Then, on 31 October watch out for Nellie herself – today’s the day she comes alive! Inside you can get creative with the National Trust in the spooky stables workshops, with creepy craft activities. There’s also pumpkin carving on 31 October - come along in your Hallowe’en fancy dress and bring your pumpkins in to carve, then join the spooky pumpkin parade with prizes for the biggest, ugliest and scariest pumpkins!

The witch hunt takes place from 26 – 31 October, 12 – 3pm at a cost of 50p. The spooky stables workshops take place from 26 – 31 October, 11am – 3pm and each activity is £1. On the 31 October, pumpkin carving is at 12 and the parade at 4pm

Halloween trail and family fun day

Have a go at our spooky trail and see what you can find hidden around the eerie gardens, grounds and hall. Do you dare to explore deep down in the dark basement? There’s also a whole day of Halloween family fun taking place on the 31October. Don’t forget to come along in your Hallowe’en fancy dress and bring your carved pumpkin. There’ll be prizes for the best fancy dress and spookiest pumpkin plus face painting, balloon modelling and some spooky story telling in the woodland from the Seaton Delaval Hall Ghoul.

50 things to do… before you’re scared to death

We’ve put a spooky twist on some of the activities on the list of 50 things to do before you’re 11 ¾. Explore the spooky west woods where you can hold a scary beast, hunt for monsters using a map and compass and build a den to hide from the ghosts and ghouls. And if this wasn’t enough, there will also be indoor activities and outdoor adventures at Wallington every day of the holidays including pumpkin carving, broomstick making, spooky storytelling and creepy crafts.

Boggle Busting

Ever heard of a Boggle? Thomas Bewick who lived at Cherryburn wished he hadn’t. He was both scared and fascinated by these supernatural creatures from Northumbrian folklore, so much so that he drew them a lot. Help Bewick put a stop to the ghostly goings on at Cherryburn on a Boggle-Busting family trail.
