Overview

Set west of Newcastle in 1000 stunning acres of Northumberland forest and moorland is Slaley Hall. The hotel owes its existence to Charles Samuel Hunting, who first purchased the estate in the late 1800's. Today it remains a symbol of Edwardian elegance and a grand retreat from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Guests have a choice of 141 individually designed rooms, including suites in the Old or New Hall with spa baths, separate lounges and bedrooms, and a pick of different eating venues - Hadrian's Brasserie, The Claret Jug and a range of private dining rooms.

Slaley Hall is the only hotel in Northumbria to have two championship golf courses. Both courses are 72 par, and cater for anything from local community and corporate events through to major national and international tournaments, at the same time maintaining the standards of service and course access demanded by regular club members.

Slaley Hall has hosted the England football team - who took advantage of the hotel's football pitch during their stay.

As an alternative to golf, guests can relax by taking a swim in the leisure club's 20m pool, enjoying a treatment in the health and beauty spa or sampling the estate's numerous outdoor activities. These include clay pigeon shooting, archery, quad biking, mountain biking and off road driving. There are also options of short or long walks around the hotel's extensive gardens, which enable guests to enjoy the Northumberland scenery, as well as the estate's Japanese garden's and resident red squirrels.

Afternoon tea

Tony C, Sheffield, United Kingdom
On Friday 8th March, my wife and I had afternoon tea again for the second time in our week’s stay in the Slaley Hall lodges. The first time had been on Monday 4th March when my whole family (9 of us) celebrated my Dad’s 105th birthday with afternoon tea. The food was exceptionally good with a good selection of sandwiches, cakes, scones and tea and for, lodge owners in particular, it was very good value for money. I’d like to thank the Slaley Hall waiters, especially, Cristian, for looking after us so well on both occasions. Their service was very good and both courteous and very friendly.

March 10th Wedding reception

gordiemac2015, Goring-on Thames, United Kingdom
Poor quality food, untrained waitress service, no wine or water placed on the tables, cold veggies delivered ten minutes before the main course! A beautiful room setting spoiled by a lousy meal - uninspiring Tomato Soup, breast of tasteless chicken on the bone with uncooked vegetables especially the carrot which no one could cut! No microphones for the speakers at the top table - most unusual. It all seemed to lack a restaurant coordinator to manage the situation - very sad really on such an important day to remember! Even one hour late in sitting down! G.

Great location very well appointed hotel!

Stayed for 2 nights as we were invited to a wedding. If you are a golfer then you will be in heaven... in fact when the golf course first opened my father was the first guest to play on it!! Our room was large clean and very comfortable although the heating was problematic saying that I don’t mind a cooler room! The included breakfast was of good quality and extremely generous although the orange juice was cheap and diluted( go the distance it makes a difference). Our problem was the wedding breakfast!! It was like a cheap carvery roast and the staff didn’t have a clue what they were doing! Getting wine was a joke and I didn’t want to embarrass anyone by going to the bar for a couple of bottles!! The chef really let the bride and groom down with wet chicken, raw cauliflower and what tasted like Aunt Bessie Yorkshire’s!! I trained at Gleneagles as a chef so I can honestly say a drunk commie chef could have done better! Gravy tasted instant... I was surprised!! The hotel generally deserves 5 stars for most things but I wouldn’t have a wedding there unless more control was taken over the catering!!!! I will stay again as I love nearby Hexham..

Spa day/night

Just got back from a girls night away. Second time I have visited and was not disappointed ....had a great time. Christian from the restaurant needs a special mention excellent customer service, good knowledge of food on offer and he recommended wines to suit. Lunch was good but preferred it when it was all self service..... bit more of a choice. But that is just our personal opinion .....it was still very good. Spa was busy but plenty beds available. Spa treatments we all had 2 were excellent. Enjoyed so much returning at end of month
