Simple accomodation with lots of nearby facilities

reidand, Halifax, United Kingdom
This is not a YHA run hostel (though you can book via YHA) but it looks just like one; dorms with bunks, showers, kitchen, a lounge. Plus a drying room of sorts (you have to light the fire yourself) and a bike store. I stayed at the hostel for 3 nights and it was fine. The principal advantage for me was that everything you needed was 5 mins walk away. All kind of shops, a pub (The Cheviot) serving excellent food, and a great little cafe (Rocky Road) for breakfast. Bellingham is on the Pennine Way, there are some brilliant bike trails around Kielder, and even salmon fishing nearby. Would definitely go again.

Just what we needed

Andrea S,
We have just arrived back home from a fabulous four nights away. The weather was drizzly throughout our stay but that didn't spoil our much needed time out from work . It's a great base to see a lot of history. We visited housesteads. Hadrians wall Vindolanda. Cragside. And one evening when we made it back early enough we took on the waterfall challenge. Mum dad teenager and a 5 yr old . Got on our boots and headed up through the village. What a gem. The walk is thrilling requires a little focus in places with a 5 yr old. But she checked each of the 6 wooden bridges for trolls and we made good time. Some lovely surprises along the way and few stop off points. It Took just over an hour there . And we had well earned rest and a waterfall rince. Before our decent. The kids said this was the best bit of our break. !! And it didn't cost a penny. The campsite is a great base. Has everything you need. It's all clean. The pubs are good and friendly . The bakery makes the best giant vienesse whirls and the cafe does a belly busting brekkie. The field is Safe enough to let the kids play in. with their plastic swords being Romans making new friends. So you can slide back in a deck chair and sip a little wine . Because you can. we were in bed by 10 most nights and slept soundly. It has been heavenly. Thank you ..

Friendly and peaceful

Alex__NorthEast, North East
Stayed there with my dog for 2 days. Simple, but well kept site tucked away behind a working farm with a friendly and helpful owner. Only a short walk to the local shops (great local bakery shop) and plenty of walking for the dog. A clear night with a full moon made it great for star gazing. And at a great price.

Great site and surroundings

Lesley-ann F,
This is the second time I've been to this camp site the first time I went electric and this time I decided to go with out. Carnt complaine at the price and the site is always clean and tidy, toilet block is kept clean and warm. There is an amazing little Chinese round next to the co-op and the pubs all have a great atmosphere.

Campsite end day 13 Pennine Way

Adam B, Manchester, United Kingdom
Great facilities - clean, modernised, lots of hot water in showers. Short walk to village for food and shopping. British Cycling team were staying in the bunkhouse when I visited so cannot be bad (saw the coaches in the pub later!)
