Not impressed

Came in as a group of 5 including a baby, came in and got walked past a few times before being told can sit anywhere that's not reserved, asked for a high chair and got told they didnt know if there was any left but she will check. After about 5-10 and no sign of a high chair so had to go and ask again and the young man from behind the bar went and got one from upstairs which I thought was nice of him. Ordered our meals and drinks and got told food would be abit of a wait with it being busy which we guessed would be the case and was fair enough. However after about 20 minutes it died down a lot and was only a handful of tables in. One hour later and still no food the group behind our table complained on waiting times and they got their meal before us even though they ordered after. This resulted in my partner having to ask if our food would be any longer because our child was getting very hungry and worked up. Seen the staff we asked whispering to the bar man and then we got told it wouldn't be long theres just one more table in front of us. So with knowing we ordered our food before the group behind us so we assumed they forgot our order. 1 hour and 25 minutes later our food had arrived and they brung one the wrong plate of food for one of our friends and had to go swap it. The food was beautiful once we finally got it however one of our group had asked for beef and pork dinner and only got a pork one. The waiter after we had finished did come over and apologise for our wait which was appreciated. The staff were nice and food quality was nice but the wait time was ridiculous and this is the 2nd time in the space of a year or 2 my order at this pub has been forgotten about. Clearly something needs to change.

Dropped in for lunch

Staying at Haggerston Castle Holiday Park we went for a walk to holy island. We was told about the Lindisfarne Inn and how good Sunday lunch was so decided to try it on our way back. We were greeted by the staff who were polite and helpful and booked a table for two. There was a really warm and comfortable atmosphere even though after about 15 minutes the restaurant was very busy. We ordered the trio of meats Sunday lunch which was excellent. Plentiful and tasty, beautifully cooked and more importantly still hot. ( unlike most places who like to serve your Sunday roast warm cause they can’t cope with the volume 😡). There was a table of 13 and the staff dealt with their drinks and variety of meals brilliantly. As well as serving the rest of us at the same time. Very well organised and professional. We didn’t have to wait long for our meals either, 5 min after ordering, and there was no rush to eat and leave. We didn’t have desert but from what we could see they looked great. Overall a really good place to eat with a good food and drink menu to choose from with a specials board.

Good location

Stayed here as part of group walking the St Cuthbert Way. Rooms were very basic and small. However staff helpful and friendly. Excellent breakfast. A busy restaurant and good pub food. A drying room would have helped as weather very wet and nowhere to hang our wet gear.

Final Night with St Cuthbert

Our group stayed here on the last leg of the journey. One should bear in mind, I suggest, that rather than being a conventional hotel it is more a restaurant with motel-type rooms attached to it. The rooms are self-contained accessble outside the resaurant/reception area in two lines one, above the other. They are pretty bland but, having said that, they are adequate, ergonomically laid out and work as sleeping areas. The ensuite facilities are fine and the beds comfortable although disappointing in that duvets only are supplied with no sheets (my preference) We dined there and breakfasted the next day. Both meals were fine. At dinner I was particularly impressed with the steak pie (shortcrust pastry actually prepared as a pie - rarer than one might expect). For dessert, Raspberry and Fangipani tart with custard! I asked for lots of custard and got it!!! It was a great experience and we were all pleased with that. Breakfast was fine - porridge followed by Eggs Benedict. Both were acceptable, though I left the bread on which the eggs were presented - it seemed a little doughy, but overall the cooked breakfast was fine. The hotel met its obligations satisfactorily, without being exciting. What it lacked in character, though, was made up for by service levels which I commend. Thank you.

Highly recommended

Just spent three nights on a dinner, bed & breakfast offer and can’t sing its praises highly enough. Great location on the A1, brilliant staff who do the company proud, excellent food, and clean, modern, comfortable rooms with everything you need. If they have the Winter Break offer on again next year I’ll be first on the list. Returning to the area in November and will definitely pop in for a drink or three then.
