Great Day Out.

Bill R, Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom
Last visit was over two years ago and we were surprised and delighted with the amount of upgrading and moving of animals that had happened.Place appeared better organised and all the animals looked well cared for and the place was lovely and clean.A Cafe in this area would be good and probably make a lot of money and would stop families have to leave Zoo to get food and then having to return.Check for Special Offers on-line before booking tickets. We were able to get a family ticket for £10, this was a saving of over 60% on normal booking.

Lovely day out

I just wanted to leave a review after our 2nd visit. We visited today, while the countryside festival was on. It was busy but we haven’t had to queue much. Plenty to do, things for all people, the weather was good too. I would totally recommend this place and we will be back

Countryside event

Paul G, Choppington, United Kingdom
This review is based on visiting the zoo whilst the Countryside Event was taking place, so there were people everywhere. Don't expect any of the big charismatic animals that you normally get at a zoo - if you take your time and take part in at least one of the talks you will learn a great deal, and they've highlighted the pollution problem regarding plastics. There are over 100 species of all different species - the aquatics section has fish, amphibians and marine invertebrates; the Walk of Life has primates, exotic mammals, reptiles and bugs (though some of these you can only see when they are lit); paddock animals like alpacas and donkeys, the petting barn for rabbits and guinea pigs, a wallaby walkthrough, an avian wetland section and the lorikeet feeding experience which was closed during our visit. The only issues I had was the difficult access from the Walk of Life next to the armadillos (a door and a strip curtain at a 90 degree angle), and catering facilities for which you normally have to leave the zoo grounds and then come back if you wish. But there are toilets in the main zoo building and classrooms which they use for the talks. Plus, they have moved some animals around to make way for others, e.g, the tortoises are now outside at the front with the meerkats and porcupines at the other side. If you make the most of your visit you could dine at the Orangery cafe or Cedar Tree cafe and head to the horticulture area, and there is ample parking.

wow, what a place to visit

lynnejay, Tyne and Wear, United Kingdom
We booked a animal experience with the meerkats for my daughter and grandson, who had a wonderful time. They were able to feed them and even had a few scratching at their feet. The zoo is perfectly packaged and have some adorable animals. The lemurs and reptile house were our favourites. Having tea and cake in the Orangery is worth it too, for a little afternoon treat. We also found a wooden activity play area for the kids, near some picnic benches near the entrance, for the kids to run off a little bit of energy. Price is great for a good 4/5 hours visit. And the staff could not be any more helpful. Can't praise Kirkley Hall enough. Thanks
