Transformers take over Alnwick Castle

Alnwick Castle in Northumberland adds yet another Hollywood blockbuster to its impressive and ever-growing list of film locations with the release of Transformers: The Last Knight on 23 June 2017.

Directed by Michael Bay and starring Mark Wahlberg; Sir Anthony Hopkins; Josh Duhamel; and Laura Haddock; scenes from Transformers: The Last Knight were shot at numerous locations within Alnwick Castle including the library; the Inner Bailey; the Peth; and Bowburn – the area immediately outside the castle walls.

In this fifth, exciting film of the Transformers series, Humans and Transformers are at war. Heroes become villains, the hunted become heroes, and saving the world falls on the shoulders of a highly unlikely alliance.

Scenes where the action took place in Transformers: The Last Knight, will now be included in the popular Alnwick Castle “On Location” tours* where guests visit film and TV locations and hear the off-camera filming anecdotes with an entertaining and engaging, costumed guide. Films shot here, which you can hear all about, include: Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone; Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets; Downton Abbey; The Hollow Crown, and now also Transformers: The Last Knight.

Other fantastic activities at Alnwick Castle this year include regular appearances from Harry Potter-inspired characters; broomstick training*; wizards and alchemists; fantastic falconry displays; high jinks with jesters; scary, spooky cellar tours and hands-on medieval craft-making in the Knights Quest market place. Don’t forget to pay a visit to Alnwick Castle’s latest resident – if you dare - a huge, snarling fire-belching dragon!

For those who prefer castles in a more traditional format you will also find fascinating State Room and history tours here.

“On Location” tours and broomstick training take place at regular times throughout the day and are included in admission ticket but must be booked in advance so early arrival is recommended.
