Overview

The Duke of Wellington Inn is nestled in the Tyne valleys village of Newton just off the A69 near Corbridge, within easy access to Newcastle, Hadrian’s Wall Country, Hexham and Northumberland’s National Park. The inn has recently reopened following an extensive refurbishment.

The new décor reflects the traditional country inn history but with a modern twist. Existing oak and stone has been enhanced with modern colours, furniture and fabrics. Lunches and dinners are served seven days a week in the bar and dining room. The food provides traditional British comfort eating to an exceptional standard and makes use of local, seasonal ingredients. A comprehensive range of beers and ales compliments an extensive wine list.

The inn experience continues with seven bedrooms providing a very high quality of luxury accommodation. There is an internal cycle and golf club store along with a boot room for those visitors who favour a less relaxing country break. The outstanding views across the Tyne valley provide the ultimate conclusion to a visit to the Duke of Wellington which will stay with you long after you leave.

An amazing stop over for the night.

Realfakegeekgrl,
From the large spacious room to the deep soaking tub, this inn was everything we could have wanted. The French coffee press and special house blend of coffee in our room was especially appreciated by my husband while I enjoyed the tea and kettle. The folks here went above and beyond. I would recommend this place to everyone I know.

Weekend break

Quaint Inn in a beautiful remote location. Lot's of lovely walks. Staff, food and room most satisfactory. Couldn't have picked a nicer place. Would definitely recommend and return. Had to wait a while for food but it was worth the wait.

excellent visit

mrswaughy, newcastle upon tyne
just returned from a one night stay at this lovely country inn using itison voucher ,and what a bargain !!! fabulous location ,superb food ,sumptuous well appointed room ,lovely friendly attentive but unobtrusive staff, couldn't fault it.We were very fortunate as it was steak night and we had perfectly cooked steaks at a great price with delicious accompanyments which made for a substantial and very enjoyable meal. Also included was a drink each .A very quaffable glass of malbec for me and a pint of premium lager for himself! Very nice indeed. The bedroom was exceptionally clean and fresh with tasteful decor ,white company toiletries ,crisp sheets and fluffy towels, the temerature was just right ,and the hospitality tray was well stocked with tynemouth coffee co filter coffee and a cafetiere, as well as instant options ,also 2 bottles of Fentimans soft drinks ,2 bottles of water ,and biscuits, all complimentary. All in all we enjoyed a very, very nice stay and can't wait to go back

This is exactly what a very well run independent hotel looks like.

DOCWESTEND,
Spent a Friday and Sat might at the Wellington using an 'itison' voucher deal (£139) for both nights incl Breakfast. All aspects of the stay great. Lovely building in tip top condition. Sensitive and well executed refurb of traditional property with no corners cut. Lots of attention to detail. Quality feel throughout. Tasteful and contemporary decor. Every single staff member we interacted with was friendly and professional from start to finish, in reception, bar, restaurant, cleaning staff all so. Restaurant menu well put together with a range of different price options from mid-high. Chef clearly knows his onions. Produce used was a great quality. The only downside (if this is one at all) is that the hotel is in a small Hamlet with no other local options and therefore requires a drive to reach any alternative eateries/pubs. Not an issue for a short stay as the in-house restaurant is great and there's a good selection of quality wine / whisky / local beers at the bar. Thumbs up for this place, it's exactly what a very well run independent hotel looks like.

WOW what a gem

Booked in for a midweek treat for us to escape the kids :) Could not have been better, fantastic room with some great little touches and really friendly staff. The evening meal was superb, the chef recommended the lamb and it was incredible. We both tend to skip desserts but the cookie fondant that we shared was awesome. If you need to stay in Northumberland this is the hotel for you, we will be returning soon.
