Best Roman Cavalry Fort in Britain

r0mantraveler, Newport, United Kingdom
If in the area this fort is definitely worth a visit. As well As the awesome museum on the site the ruins are great also. The site is much larger than housesteads albeit a little less well preserved , but for anyone with a vague interest in Roman history this certainly does not disappoint.

Viewing park whilst shut for winter.

On the Wednesday of our stay at The George hotel in Chollerford we walked back across the river bridge and turned right down a well gritted footpath. After circa 20 minutes we could see the stones of the old Chester Fort river bridge. We could also see some of the exposed Chester Fort building works across the river. The biggest bonus being it cost nothing.

Great in site into Romance Britain

Rhodiekiwi,
Reasonably priced access to a beautiful well preserved Roman fort along Hadrian's Wall. Set in a very picturesque area the site hosts a small museum filled with historical objects. Very interesting and well worth the entry fee.

Nice shop, great people!

We stopped here to view the site but were too late to have a proper amount of time for viewing as they were soon closing. We decided to sample and buy some wine in the shop to take home. I managed to leave my phone in the bathroom or somewhere on location. I did not notice until we were hours away and could NOT turn back due to prepaid accommodations. I left a message for someone to check the next morning for my phone. An employee who works there called me to let me know he had found it and kindly arranged to send it to me. My phone arrived with with a note from "Nick" What a wonderful thing to do for me!!! Thank you!
