Post Office House Bed & Breakfast

Overview

Post Office House is a luxurious, comfortable bed and breakfast located in Belford, a mere stone's throw-away from the beautiful Northumberland coast and close to Alnwick Castle and Gardens, Barter Books; Holy Island of Lindisfarne; Farne Islands and Longstone Island with the famous puffins and Grace Darling connection....just to mention a few!  We are perfectly situated between Alnwick and Berwick-upon-Tweed and just 2 minutes off the A1. Walker, bicycle and motorcycle friendly, where we have secure storage facilities for bicycles and secure, level parking for motorcyclists.

WE ARE TEMPORARILY CLOSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.  WE WILL REOPEN OUR DOORS AS SOON AS WE ARE ABLE TO DO SO

-----------

Due to COVID-19 we are opening on reduced capacity of two rooms; our ground floor and our twin or double room upstairs which can be booked online.  Guests who are in a support/household bubble can book all three rooms or the two rooms upstairs if required.  However availability for bubble bookings and three rooms will not show up online so if you have an enquiry for such, please either email or telephone us.  Our Covid-19 information is shown on our own website, under `Safety for our Guests' page.

Post Office House is Four Star Gold, awarded by the AA, together with a breakfast award, both of which we have proudly retained every year since opening in 2016. We were awarded a TripAdvisor Travellers Choice in 2020 by TripAdvisor. We are also members of Sawdays Special Places to Stay and Wolsey Lodges, exclusive member-based accommodation providers.  Please do check out our guest comments on the home page of our website and our TripAdvisor reviews to see our guests' feedback (please book directly with us though, rather than going through TripAdvisor - thank you!!)

Our characteristic, unique Victorian building is Grade II Listed and has an interesting history.  It housed the former post office, shop and National Girobank facilities up until 2014.  It was purposely built as a  post office, sorting office, together with the Postmaster's family residence and in later years, Belford's telephone exchange.  The famous Victorian heroine, Grace Darling, has also graced Post Office House, back in 1847 to post a letter to her solicitor (copies of which we have in each of our bedrooms!). We have fully renovated and sympathetically restored Post Office House into an elegant and luxurious place to stay where guests can experience excellent hospitality with quality, comfortable and well-equipped rooms.

We have three elegant and individually designed rooms which are appointed to a high standard with luxury white cotton bedding, fluffy towels, bathrobes and Scottish Fine Soap Company toiletries. In addition, our facilities also include homemade cake on arrival, complimentary WiFi, private off-street parking for three cars (one space per room), Nespresso coffee machines, a very generous hospitality tray with teas and hot chocolate from Ringtons, Smart TV's in each room (all with streaming serivces such as Netflix and Amazon, by own log-in only) and many more little extras!  All bedrooms have en-suite facilities with power showers.  In the summer months, guests can also enjoy sitting out in our lovely secluded garden with views across the open fields and our very cute resident sheep!

Our award-winning breakfasts are freshly cooked-to-order, using quality, local produce including the famous Craster Kippers and `Bamburgh Banger' sausages from Carters in Bamburgh. We also have vegetarian options which are standard on our menu. Guests are asked to pre-order the night before, along with their preferred time from four slots between *8 am and 9.30 am in order to serve it freshly cooked-to-order.  In addition to the cooked variety, there is our homemade muesli and other cereals, fresh fruit, natural yoghurt, fruit juices and toast. Marmalade and jams are made on our premises. We are also members of `Produced in Northumberland’, a scheme set up to promote the regions' local producers and suppliers.

We have a ground floor double bedroom which is suitable for those with walking difficulties.

*Due to Covid restrictions, breakfast times are staggered between guests (8 am, 8.45 am and 9.30 am if all three rooms are occupied)

We can cater for gluten-free, dairy-free, vegan and any other special diets, by advance notice.  We offer a separate bespoke menu for Vegans which is extra at £5 per day.  A sample menu is available on our website.  Please contact us on reservation with any special food requirements.

Our Romantic/Celebration Packages are available to celebrate a special occasion such as a mini/honeymoon or anniversary, by prior arrangement with a choice of Champagne or Prosecco, flowers, chocolates in your room.  *Prices on request

Check-in: Between 4 pm and 6 pm.  Check-out: By 10.30 am

Sorry, no pets or children under 15 years.  We have no capacity for extra beds in any of our rooms. No stag/hen/wedding bookings or divers.

We regrettably cannot accommodate wheelchairs or mobility scooters due to the historic fabric of the building.
