Karl and Cindy Wait took over the Wooler Youth Hostel and Shepherds’Huts from March 2018. They have two Daughters, Evie and Daisy.

They are a local family who firmly believe that Wooler and the wider area of Northumberland have lots to offer.

Wooler Hostel and Shepherd's Huts offer a traditional 3* Youth Hostelling experience with a truly northern welcome; providing good value, low cost, spacious accommodation suitable for single travellers, families, large groups- including schools, universities, and sporting clubs- looking to stay in North Northumberland. Guests can enjoy a stay in one of the newly refurbished en-suite bedrooms in the hostel or in one of the traditional and distinctive Shepherd's Huts- which capture the true spirit of the Northumbrian countryside. A former Land Army Girls' hostel, the building is accessible throughout for all ages and abilities and located in extensive well maintained grounds rich in wildlife.

In an enviable rural location on the edge of Northumberland National Park with panoramic views across Glendale, Wooler Hostel is one of the area's most understated places to stay with access to the hills and countryside of North Northumberland and the National Park on your doorstep. In 2013 The Park was awarded 'Dark Sky Status' and visitors to Wooler during the winter months are rewarded generously with some of the deepest darkest skies.

Come and marvel at the historical, geological and natural environment of The Cheviot Hills and Glendale while out walking or cycling, before returning to the hostel to recall your adventure and around the wood burning stove, safe in the knowledge your equipment will be drying out ready for the next days adventure. Choose from self-catering, or for those guests who wish, we offer delicious home-cooked hearty meals at reasonable prices.

Guests can access countless short walks in the local area, and longer walks into the Cheviot Hills. Cyclists have access to limitless terrain, from Wooler - the home of the Wooler Cycle Hub- with 7 routes radiating from the centre of Glendale. And for the serious cyclists, there is the Wooler Wheel sportive to tackle.Whether you're a lone path trekker, long distance cyclist, family fun forager, or a group out for a gathering – for a day, short break, or longer- Wooler Hostel will help you recharge – just as it looked after the girls in the War!

Karl is a qualified Mountain Guide who can give you lot’s of advice on local walks, and regularly organises guided walks in the Cheviot Hills.
