Reiver Trails

The Sill Trail is the perfect starting point for exploring the Reiver Trails. Stretching just over six miles, it’s a manageable route that’s ideal for both walkers and cyclists.

Head into the very heart of Kielder Forest and discover the story behind its creation. Here you’ll find Lord Robinson’s memorial cairn — a tribute to the man whose vision shaped the forest. Accurately positioned at the centre of this vast 250-square-mile landscape, the cairn sits just off the waymarked route, making it a fascinating stop along your journey.

This route showcases some of the most spectacular views around Bellingham, from the rolling slopes of Dunterley Fell in the north to the sweeping Wark Forest landscapes to the west, with distant vistas stretching towards Hexham in the south.

A fantastic circular route of just over six miles, offering uninterrupted views of the reservoir along the way.

This historic route was the original Reiver Trail, linking Kielder Forest with Newcastleton Forest and bridging England and Scotland. It crosses the border at Bloodybush Toll — an ancient monument along the old drover’s road.
