Northumberland Wins First Prize in 10-Way UK Beauty Contest!

Pass GO in Northumberland
Northumberland has beaten nine other UK counties to land its very own official MONOPOLY board, with the county's finest landmarks taking pride of place. Here's everything you need to know, including how to nominate your favourite spots.

Northumberland has landed its very own official customised MONOPOLY board after beating nine other counties from across the UK.

So it's time to pass GO, collect two hundred pounds and advance (but not beyond) Hadrian's Wall.

The board comes courtesy of Winning Moves UK, the company behind official regional MONOPOLY editions across the globe, produced under license from Hasbro, the games, IP and toy giant.

Northumberland's finest landmarks, including Alnwick Castle and the Holy Island of Lindisfarne, will take the place of Mayfair and Park Lane from the classic London edition. The announcement was made at an event in Alnwick on Tuesday 7th July 2026.

At the event, it was revealed that Northumberland saw off competition from nine other counties, from Argyll and Bute in Scotland to Powys in North Wales, judged on three factors: sense of family values, civic pride and beauty.

"Northumberland has ticked every box for us," said John Keen-Tomlinson, Partnership Manager at Winning Moves.

Dorset was named runner-up.

More than 30 Northumberland landmarks and organisations, including Hadrian's Wall and Hexham Abbey, will each claim their own piece of MONOPOLY real estate on the new bespoke board.

The Chance and Community Chest cards are getting a county makeover too. One card could send players back three spaces for wild camping in Northumberland National Park.

At the launch, the public were invited to put forward their own suggestions for landmarks and organisations to feature in the game.

"We think we may be wonderfully spoilt for choice putting this board together," added Mr Keen-Tomlinson.

"The board will be themed in sets, from castles to culture, tourism to trains and beyond, all reflecting the vibrancy, beauty and rich history of Northumberland, from Roman times to today. It will be a celebration of all things Northumberland."

MONOPOLY: Northumberland Edition is set for release in spring 2027, but the makers want your ideas first. The public is invited to suggest landmarks and organisations for the board by emailing [email protected]. Nominations are open until 23:59 on 19th July 2026, so there's still time to have your say.
