YMCA North Tyneside Sunrise to Sunset Coastal Challenge

Take on an unforgettable challenge along the North East coastline while supporting vital local services.

On Saturday 28th March 2026, YMCA North Tyneside is inviting individuals, groups and businesses to take part in the Sunrise to Sunset Coastal Challenge, a 32km guided trek from Druridge Bay to North Shields.

Starting at Cresswell, Crow’s Nest in Druridge Bay, participants will set off at first light and walk the stunning Northumberland coastline through to dusk, finishing at YMCA North Tyneside’s building in North Shields. Along the way, walkers will pass historic landmarks, sweeping beaches and vibrant seaside towns while experiencing one of the region’s most beautiful coastal routes.

The challenge is being delivered in partnership with experienced expedition leaders from Alexander Adventures, ensuring the route is fully guided and supported throughout the day.

More than just a physical challenge, the event is designed to bring communities together while raising vital funds for YMCA North Tyneside. Every step taken helps support the charity’s work providing youth services, safe housing, wellbeing support and community initiatives for young people and families across the region.

The trek is open to anyone ready to take on the challenge, whether joining individually or as part of a team. Walkers will be guided at a steady pace and supported throughout the day, with refreshments, lunch and a finish-line celebration waiting at the end.

Participants are encouraged to raise £200–£250 in sponsorship, helping YMCA North Tyneside continue delivering lifeline services for those who need them most.

For those unable to take part in the walk itself, supporting a participant through sponsorship or donation is another meaningful way to contribute and help make a difference locally.
