Borderland Food Tours showcase the Stories, Flavours and Heritage of Berwick & the surrounding Borderlands.

Through the Berwick Barley Workshop guests can discover the importance of barley in Berwick and the surrounding Borderland heritage & history in a culinary & cultural experience, learning too how much barley is part of every day life now and for many years past.

The workshop is held at the newly opened Old Brewery Artist Studios — a particularly fitting location for an experience rooted in Berwick’s farming, brewing and barley heritage.

For Katrina, barley is more than just a local ingredient. Born and bred in Berwick, with a local farming background and many years spent serving barley-based drinks as an award winning restaurateur, she knows a thing or two about the grain and its importance to the area.

Her hands-on workshop invites participants to cook, taste and learn about Berwick’s fascinating connection with barley, including discovering the story behind how the town got its name.

Guests then come together for a communal lunch, with a delicious barley-based dish at its heart, accompanied by a selection of local flavours with a communal lunch showcasing an array of local food & drink.

Bringing together food, history and storytelling, the Berwick Barley Workshop offers a unique opportunity to discover a lesser-known part of the town’s heritage while meeting the people and tasting the produce that make the region so special.

It is a relaxed, small-group experience that celebrates Berwick & the Borderlands through food — connecting the past with the present and showcasing the remarkable produce being created in the region today.
