Friday 10th October 2025: Today, Ad Gefrin Anglo-Saxon Museum and Whisky Distillery unveils
its third limited edition in the Tácnbora cask finish series: the Tácnbora Sauternes Cask
Finish. This exceptional whisky has been matured for nine months in ex-Sauternes oak,
infusing the naturally sweet, cask-strength Tácnbora blend with luxurious layers of honeyed
apricot, ripe stone fruits, toffee, and almond.
Only 1,942 bottles of this 700ml expression have been released, priced at £57.00. Each bottle
is non-chill filtered, naturally coloured, and bottled at 58.2% ABV, celebrating the bold,
authentic character of Ad Gefrin’s Northumbrian whisky.
Tasting notes:
• Nose: Honeyed apricots, cedar, orange peel, vanilla, spice
• Palate: Toffee, almond, stone fruits, dried apricots, honey, oak
• Finish: Coconut, white pepper, pine, vanilla
Sauternes, the renowned sweet wine from the Graves region of Bordeaux, is celebrated for its
extraordinary richness and complexity. Made from Sémillon, Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle
grapes affected by noble rot, the resulting wine offers honeyed aromas, apricot, stone fruit,
saffron and vanilla — often described as liquid gold. By finishing Tácnbora in these exquisite
casks, Ad Gefrin builds a golden bridge between Northumbria and Bordeaux, a fusion of wild,
rugged hills and sunlit, vine-clad valleys.
This third limited edition in the Tácnbora cask finish series uses the same cask strength
Tácnbora that went into the Cognac casks. But with the Sauternes oak finish, the whisky takes
on the distinctive elegance, richness, and lingering sweetness of this fragrant French dessert
wine.
Co-founder of Ad Gefrin Anglo-Saxon Museum and Whisky Distillery, Eileen Ferguson
comments:
"A glass of Sauternes with dessert at the end of a meal takes me back to many lovely holidays
in France, breathing in the delightful aromas and tasting fabulous fresh food from local
markets. Nothing surpasses this luscious, sweet wine that elegantly pairs with so many
flavours."
