Castle Renovation Work
Kielder Castle is currently closed for redevelopment of ground floor, click here for latest update. While the castle is undergoing improvements, there’s still plenty to enjoy. Our outdoor trails and facilities remain open, making Kielder Castle the perfect starting point for your forest adventure.
Family Fun
Step into a story on the Room on the Broom trail, a fantastic family-friendly experience through the forest. Pick up an activity pack for just £4 from Team Cycles next door and join the Witch and her friends on a magical adventure.
Don’t forget to visit the Minotaur Maze – a firm favourite for explorers of all ages.
Walking and Cycling
Kielder Castle is the gateway to a wide range of walking and cycling trails, including the impressive Lakeside Way, a 26-mile multi-user trail around Kielder Water.

Kielder Forest Drive
Discover England’s largest forest from the comfort of your car along its longest forest drive – a spectacular 12-mile route between Kielder Castle and Blakehopeburnhaugh (A68), open May to December.
Climbing to over 450m above sea level, the route offers stunning viewpoints, including Blakehope Nick, designed by Newcastle University School of Architecture.
- Toll: £5 per car (payable at Kielder Castle entrance/exit)
- Surface: Unsurfaced – best suited for 4x4 vehicles and not suitable for low-clearance cars
