Greystead Old Church, Coach House and Greystead Institute lie in the heart of the North Tyne Valley, just yards from the banks of the North Tyne river. Greystead Old Church (5* Gold award) is a stunning, architect-designed conversion of a listed former Georgian church, while the Georgian Coach House (4* Gold Award) with its character old beams and antiques, and huge Walled Garden suitable for children and pets, also dates to 1817. Greystead Institute is an exceptionally stylish new 5* conversion of a former Victorian Church Hall.
Greystead Old Church (5* Gold Award)
Lovingly and sympathetically restored in 2013, and luxuriously appointed with antiques, oriental rugs, top-range appliances and luxurious White Company bedding, Greystead Old Church offers holiday accommodation of an exceptional standard. This inspirational recent conversion contains many striking original features, including the fully restored Victorian stained-glass window, colourful Victorian tiles, Georgian-Gothic archway and exposed Georgian stonework and panelling.
The converted church has a huge first floor Mezzanine open-plan living area for cooking, dining and relaxing. From here, there are stunning views from the balcony over the stained-glass window below - the ideal place to enjoy an evening glass of wine! The East End Sitting Room on the ground floor features sumptuous seating, Smart 55" TV and a cosy wood-burner in the area which once housed the church altar. Also on the ground floor in this upside-down style conversion are two en suite king-sized bedrooms, 1 king-sized bedroom with Jack and Jill bathroom, and 1 twin room, while there are axial views down a central corridor to the stained glass window.
Outside, the enclosed private garden is in a secluded corner of the Old Rectory garden with hill views, garden furniture and BBQ. Visitors also enjoy shared use of the all-weather tennis court in the Walled Garden, a star-gazing platform, and further recreational space on the Sunken Lawn.
Greystead Coach House (4* Gold Award)
Full of charm and character, this superb, architect-designed house is in the grounds of the listed Old Rectory, and has been converted from the former Coachman's house and stables. Furnished and equipped to an exceptional standard, the cottage has spacious reception rooms, oak and pine wooden flooring, antique furniture and spectacular views, and retains many original features including fireplaces and beautiful exposed beams. With its inviting wood-burner and eco-friendly central heating, this family-friendly cottage provides a warm welcome even in the coldest weather.
Downstairs there is a spacious and elegant Sitting Room, a separate Dining Room formed from the original Coachman's living area, and Hall featuring the glazed Coach arch and staircase. The large Kitchen/Breakfast Room offers architect-designed units, electric range cooker, granite worktops and oak flooring. Upstairs the three bedrooms include a spacious super-king-sized bedroom, a character king-sized bedroom, and a delightful twin-bedded room. The upstairs bathroom and downstairs shower room have both been recently redesigned with heritage-style Burlington suites.
There is ample off-road parking, and visitors enjoy sole use of the large, enclosed Old Rectory Walled Garden with mature shrubs, trees and lawn, and garden furniture and BBQ. The all-weather tennis court and star-gazing platform are shared with visitors to our other two cottages.
Greystead Institute (5*)
This beautiful late Victorian former church hall has recently been converted into a 5* deluxe holiday cottage which opened in May 2019. It has been retained as far as possible in its original state, including the Victorian fireplace and character beams, while the Victorian windows have been replaced in their original form. A very large open-plan living space, and kitchen area with dramatic granite worktops, occupy the central Victorian space, which has a stunning oak spiral staircase specially commissioned for the room in 2019 as its central feature. The dining room is in the new Conservatory, while there are two stylish en suite king-size and double bedrooms, one with feature Victorian-style bath, and an entrance hall. There is a patio with stunning views overlooking the Northumbrian hills and a small, fully enclosed, private garden.
The Institute is on the same site as our other two holiday cottages, and visitors also have access to the all-weather tennis court adjacent to the property, and to the communal areas of the Old Rectory garden and star-gazing platform.
