Fabulous Falstone Barns. Classic Oppulent

lambo1973,
Just home from a lovely 2 night stay. Our room was on the first floor of the old barn. Beautifully decorated throughout. Bedrooms were very luxurious. Large, sunken bath in master and double-headed power shower in second room. Both beds are huge and rooms were cosy, warm and the whole place (given the rural location) was very clean. As the weather was poor we were forced to spend more time inside than we'd hoped so noticed the sofa and high back chairs felt a little formal for lounging around. Also the pillows on the beds (as another member pointed out) could be renewed as they were fairly flat and hard. Having said that, these are just our personal preferences and wouldn't stop us from recommending or returning. The barn is in a lovely spot. Close to observatory and a few minutes walk from the local pub. Friendly locals and great pub grub. Lots of walking from the doorstep. We didn't get clear skies-that was our only disappointment. So I guess we'll just have to go back!

Tranquil and Very Relaxing

Julie P,
We visited here on the 3rd December 2017, it was a very nice surprise birthday gift from my husband. Arrived on site to be met by a lovely lady who showed us to our 'posh hut' My first thought was oh dear this is very small, but I couldn't have been more delighted once I got in and explored. The space was so well used and very very comfortable. There was no TV or internet so it we were totally undisturbed. The bed was very clean, warm and comfortable. The kitchen area was very well thought out and everything you need is in there. Shower and toilet was lovely and clean, shower was powerful and hot. There is a pub just around the corner 'The Black Cock' which served a very nice Sunday lunch and the real ale was very well kept (my hubby is a beer snob so was very happy) On an evening if your lucky enough to have a clear sky it is amazing to see the stars. Only little niggle was the security light which came on when you went outside so you couldn't see the dark sky as well as you could. The option to switch the light off would be good, at person's own risk though. All in all a very pleasant stay and would definitely return.

Loved it!

Our check in time was 16:00 but they kindly allowed us to go in early. We stayed in the French Apartment on the ground floor luckily there was no one staying on the 1st floor as one of the reviews said it was noisy upstairs. I cannot fault the french barn, as soon as you enter the front door straight in front of you there is the main bedroom with a large comfortable bed, directly inline with the bed you have a on suite which at first you think its a wardrobe but when you open it its a Victorian/Edwardian style bathroom, big bath tub for you to soak in and relax, it also has a shower enclosure with powerful water pressure. It has a open plan kitchen living room area with 3 large windows looking into the garden ( they must have got a professional room designer for this) its layout is very spacious. Very warm cosy sofas, beautiful stone design fire place. It has wifi and tv's in all rooms The kids room has 2 single beds with a en suite shower enclosure. it was my kids first getaway and they were speechless and loved every bit of it. we live in central Birmingham and going away to this place made us realise how fast we live our lives like robots. The best part for me was the night sky, i peeped out the front door at 7pm pitch dark and looked up at the sky it was so beautiful, i got excited that i closed the door and came back inside to get ready but when i went out there was no stars, i waited and prayed so i can see the lowest heavens, roughly after half hour stars started to show, breath taking beautiful gorgeous night sky came to life with absolutely stunning stars all around, it was a amazing experience that it really completed our stay at this place. Overall a excellent stay and experience of living under the 'darkest skies' in the UK. Would i come back? yes i would definitely come back to stay at only this place the French Bourgeois.

Ok but a couple of niggles

peter b, Keighley, United Kingdom
We stayed in the French apartment which is on the ground floor with a different apartment above it. The biggest issue with this is that the floor joists are so creaky and the sound insulation so poor that we could hear the apartment aboves music, footsteps, furniture adjustments and on the last night their teenager having a paddy. I’m not sure what could be done about this as I suspect it is something that would require structural work to address, but it means we both agreed we wouldn’t stay in that particular apartment again. Other than that, the apartment is generally good, very impressive on first arrival and a good size throughout. The kids were made up with the heated floor in their bathroom and we loved the huge freestanding bath in ours. There are a few things that were chipped or cracked, like the taps in the bathroom, and in the kitchen the cupboard door for the bin was broken and sagging to one side, but overall it was ok. I think if we came back we would try a different apartment. The price is ok for the location, which is amazing. We cycled round Kielder Water during our stay, and it is 5 minuted to the dam from the barns.
