Excellent base for visiting Northumberland!

Richard1958, Basildon, Essex
We stayed in Chicken Coop Cottage at Elishaw Farm Holiday Cottages for the Christmas week commencing 23rd December 2017. The accommodation is situated in the Redesdale valley 2 miles north of Otterburn and 13 miles south of the Scottish border at Carter Bar. The initial communication with Tina by e-mail to confirm availability was very friendly and helpful and my BACS payments of the deposit and balance were quick and convenient. The total cost for the week was more expensive than a non-Christmas week but it still represented good value for a peak holiday period. Elishaw Farm Holiday Cottages are situated in a stand alone location surrounded by beautiful Northumbrian countryside although the main A68 road does pass by the boundary of the property and traffic noise can be quite intrusive especially from the HGVs travelling at night. However, the accommodation is in an excellent central location for travelling around Northumberland. During our stay we visited the Northumberland National Park (including Kielder Forest and Kielder Water, Coquetdale and The Sill National Landscape Discovery Centre), the Northumberland coast between Newbiggin-on-Sea and Berwick-upon-Tweed (including the Northumberland Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Holy Island and Lindisfarne Priory and Lindisfarne National Nature Reserve and the historical Roman sites (including Hadrian’s Wall, Housesteads Fort and Vindolanda Fort), all of which are highly recommended. Chicken Coop Cottage was cosy, clean and comfortable and provided everything we needed for our "escape from Christmas" break. The “welcome pack” of a bottle of mulled wine, mince pies, chocolate Matchmakers, home-baked cake and eggs from the free range chickens were much appreciated. There is a small supermarket in nearby Otterburn but we arrived with our food and other provisions for the week having bought these before our journey north together with an additional stop at Tescos in Consett. The Shetland Ponies, Sweep, Biscuit and Ginger, in the field adjacent to Chicken Coop Cottage were quick to say “hello” when we arrived and clearly enjoyed (expected) the offerings of carrots, parsnips and apples at various times during our stay. Many thanks Tina and Alan for your welcome and hospitality .... we enjoyed our Christmas break at Elishaw Farm Holiday Cottages. Anyone planning a holiday in this beautiful and historical part of England should definitely consider Elishaw Farm Holiday Cottages as a base.

Amazing

Gail M, Sunderland, United Kingdom
spent a week here over new year. We had an amazing time. The self catering cottages had everything you need. They were immaculate. On arriving there was a bottle of wine, after eight mints and some sweet mice pies awaiting for us. The fire was all set to light which made us feel so welcome. The owners of the properties are at hand if you need them but do not intrude on your holiday. They were extremely warm and friendly and can't do enough for you. There were 2 bedrooms which were a fair size and a spacious bathroom. We had 3 dogs but this wasn't a problem as there are lovely walks both at the back of the cottages and in the surrounding forestry areas. The only downside is that there isn't a shop or pub within walking distance but this didn't cause us too much of a problem. We have stayed here once before and my daughter and son in law have stayed at the cottages several times. We will certainly be back at some point this year. Thanks so much.

Fabulous cottage

Footrace,
We recently stayed in this fabulous cottage. The cottage was spotlessly clean and we'll equipped. Everything we could have asked for. Alan & Tina are really friendly and helpful. On arrival Tina had left us fresh eggs from their chickens, fresh flowers and a very tasty home made cake. The garden was nice and the Shetland ponies in the field behind visited regularly for carrots. The cottage is perfectly situated to visit the area and we had some great days out while we were there. We had taken our 2 small terriers and having a big field to use for their morning and evening walk with such great views was brilliant. We couldn't fault our stay and I'm sure we will return again. Thank you Tina & Alan.

Magical experience - We can't wait to go back!

Karl J, Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom
This was the most enjoyable and relaxing holiday destination we have experienced in the UK. Firstly, we like going on holiday with our dog, but up until now finding somewhere suitable hasn’t been easy. Elishaw Farm has been by far the most perfect dog friendly holiday destination we have experienced. They have a huge amount of private land that runs through an orchard and alongside a river. This huge space meant it was possible for Murphy, our Weimaraner to roam freely off-lead and to enjoy just being himself. We spent many mornings, afternoons and evenings taking advantage of the space that made him so happy, playing dog games and having fun together. The cottage is ideally located for quick and easy access to an array of attractions and places to visit including the walks and sights of both Kielder water, Northumberland National Park, a number of other local destinations that were well worth the visit, plus it’s about 20 minutes from the Scottish border. Having dark sky status meant it was also possible to see millions of stars that we can’t usually see at home, and miraculously I managed to catch sight of the luminous Northern Lights - all from the back garden of the cottage we were staying in. Alan and Tina are the perfect hosts. They are kind, friendly, and went out of their way to make us feel warmly welcomed. The also make themselves instantly available should their guests need anything. They had also surprised us (and the other guests next door) with a lovely homemade cake, some milk, and some fresh eggs from their free range hens who can be seen enjoying life living in such a pleasant countryside environment. We highly recommend this place to everyone, not just for dog lovers. Staying here allowed us to experience the magic of a holiday without stress, with lots of fun, laughter and adventure with plenty of days out discovering the local attractions, all topped off with hosts who genuinely wanted their guests to enjoy their holiday. Being back home for 3 days we are very much missing the cottage and the area we stayed, not to mention the 3 adorable ponies that were in the field next to our cottage. We and the children next door enjoyed petting and feeding them every day. We will definitely be going back for more holidays to Elishaw farm.

We stayed in Farmhouse cottage 12th- 19th August.

Chris W, Lincoln, United Kingdom
We stayed in Farmhouse cottage from the 12th - 19th August. When we arrived we discovered the cottage in lovely surroundings just bordering the national park. The cottage was very cosy and catered for all of us. Books, board games, WiFi and table tennis in the barn (we found out that Ellie was a whizz on the table tennis}, the kitchen was well stocked with utensils and a tasty cake. We were welcomed by Tina who advised us of the private grounds, allowing Billy to put his scouting skills to use by making us a camp fire by the River Rede, whilst Ellie was fishing. The Shetland ponies greeted us every morning by the garden gate and at times the chickens joined in, ensure you have carrots handy. We enjoyed many days out visiting Northumbria and the Scottish border towns, including Beamish museum. The pub William De Percy in Otterburn is worth the visit. We all enjoyed a truly amazing time and we would love to return.
