As good as it gets for couples

DimmerBVB, Axminster, United Kingdom
We stayed for 1 week in The Retreat during November and I must say this cottage is as good as it gets for couples seeking a getaway to peace and tranquility. Everything has been considered by the owners to make the stay comfortable and relaxing. The cottage is tucked away in a beautiful part of rural Northumberland. For those of you frightened of getting a little 'stir crazy', Alnwick, a busy little town is only 30 minutes by car away, and Newcastle and Edinburgh are both an easy day trip away. Having your own Swim Spa is the icing on the cake with bells on for those seeking a truly luxurious break from the daily hassle of life.

We spent a week at The Retreat. Highly recommend the pre prepared meal option, it was delicious as were the home made pizzas which we had on the Tuesday evening delivered by Graham. The cottage itself is beautiful. Immaculate inside with lots of thoughtful touches. Sitting outside and enjoying a morning coffee we were lucky enough to see rabbits, red squirral bouncing across the lawn, lots of garden birds including a little Robin all of whom were accompanied by two fat hens. The swim spa was fantastic to come back to and relax. The whole area is quite stunning and the coastline at Cocklawburn was one of the most beautiful we have ever seen. We have been lucky enough over the past few years to stay in some stunning places but none this friendly and none whereby day three I have forgotten the names of the cases I work. We have returned home, happy, relaxed, fitter and in the knowledge we will return. No hesitation in recommending and thank you both for giving us an unforgetable break. Paul and Gilly

lovely peaceful place to stay

We have stayed in three of the cottages here on at least five occasions over the last seven years and always have a lovely stay. Peaceful and quiet with lots of wildlife and friendly hosts. The pizzas are delicious too. It is a little drive to get out and about but we don't mind driving and Bamburgh, Alnwick and Alnmouth are all within 45 mins or less. Some lovely walks by the river nearby which is also suitable for paddling in the summer. All the cottages are comfortable, clean and well equipped.

Gate Lodge

AnneO6757IP, Kingston-upon-Hull, United Kingdom
Gate Lodge is the kind of place where you relax the minute you walk through the door. Many holiday cottages are described as luxury but Gate Lodge truly is and was spotlessly clean. The soup and fresh bread were really welcome on our arrival and Graham & Trysha are excellent hosts. Trysha's pizzas were delicious and it was a treat to have the option of having a meal cooked for us whilst staying self catering. Soaking in the hot tub after a day walking by the coast whilst watching the birds visit the feeders was wonderful. We also saw the red squirrel on a couple of days. Gate Lodge is a real haven from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Thank you Trysha & Graham for the special memories we have of our stay.

Walking week in the Cheviots

Johnlynne15, Derby, United Kingdom
We stayed in the Coach House a cosy, comfortable, clean and extremely well equipped cottage for 2. The location was superb with amazing walks on our doorstep and peaceful too. We arrived to the smells of fresh bread from the bread machine and Lamb Balti which was in the slow cooker, we had ordered this from Trysha beforehand. The food was delicious! Graham and Trysha were on hand if needed and their attention to detail helped to make our stay extremely special and memorable!
