Great site and very peaceful

major681, Manchester, United Kingdom
Good activities and good standard of clean accommodation with great views over the forest. One of the party had difficulty getting about so we were taken on a tour of the forest tracks in a buggy. Staff were helpful and would return again

Culvert trust holidays our great for family’s with or with out disability. A place we’re every one is treated as equal no matter what . There a no limits rule so if your disabled you can do everything a baked body person can do . Staff amazing helpful and full offun Andy ideas to help break fears . Only place I know that has respite in the whole of uk we're you have fun wile being looked after and your loved one a have a break I should know been twice . Knowing I am having fun and I am safe my partner has a week of rest and relaxation. All my needs were meet with care and dignity and a amazing friendly some times crazy care team but that adds to make your respite fun and also fun for a holiday .. Going back end of May with grandchildren and this will be my first holiday with then and I can join in and have just as much fun.. yes no phone signal and not much WiFi’s but your on Hoilday so put your phones away and take time to have fun enjoy family time and come home relaxed.plus fully charged

Straker: quality accommodation in the forest

Charlie Hurley, Hull
Luckily for us, we arrived at the Calvert Trust one day before the unseasonable, heavy, February snow hit the region, effectively cutting off access to the site within 48 hours. We were able to enjoy some glorious, snow-covered walks out from our lodge before it became impractical to do so. Fortunately, we had rented the Straker, making the next couple of snowbound days a pleasure to endure. It’s the only lodge of its type on site although there are plans to build more. As other reviewers have mentioned the Straker is a hugely comfortable; impressively equipped; ideally positioned “cabin” with panoramic views over the valley. We used the hot tub on the first two days of our stay before access was impeded by knee-deep snow. The hot tub is wood-fired, takes several hours to reach a comfortable temperature so we would recommend guests pay for it to be pre-heated. A mistake that we made was to bank up the heater with wood to keep it ticking over on the first night. The water was so hot the next morning, we had to remove the cover to let it cool enough for us to be able to commit to submersion – be warned. An electrically heated hot tub makes much more sense. As previously stated, the views from the lodge are tremendous. Add snow and they become awesome. From our centrally heated vantage point, we were happy to sit and watch the snow pile up. The staff at the Calvert Trust were first class. During a power cut (caused by a fault with the temporary generators), they provided information and supplies to our door throughout. They all seemed to have bought in to the ethic of the Trust: could not ask for better customer service. One negative: broadband is very slow.

Highly Disappointing Customer service on a managerial level

Colin K,
Myself and my wife stayed at the Mccardle last weekend for our wedding anniversary. Upon first impressions it was amazing, however reading into the guestbook it appeared that there were many recurring problems that seem to keep getting ignored. The Hot tub which is a main selling point for example had been reported going back a year as not working properly and when i checked it was freezing cold. We reported it and didnt received maintenance until the next day. This did not sort the problem so we asked to see a manager to see what they can do to sort this problem. We were promised each night that the manager would be in 9am the next day and each morning we went down the manager had conveniently found somewhere else she needed to be. The other staff were brilliant and apologetic. The hot tub did not work the entire time we stayed and the manager has only just got back to us implying it was our fault! considering it was freezing when we arrived, and we didnt touch it the entire time, and a maintenance man came to look at it i find this incredibly insulting. We paid ALOT of money to stay here and it has been completely ruined by the lack of communication, customer services shown on a managerial level. What kind of business finds a fault, ignores it and then blames it on their paying customers?
