Delightful Location & Great Food

Petert K, Matlock Bath
We called in here after visiting Allen Banks and the Staward Gorge. We loved the layout of the Pub so that eating al fresco was possible and which we enjoyed on such a lovely sunny afternoon. The service was quick and very friendly and the food very traditional pub grub but tasty. I had no complaints, unlike some reviewers, but I guess it depends on what you choose. There were four in our party and we all had something different, but everybody said how much they had enjoyed their choices and the portions were very generous. This is great walking country and the location of The Boatside Inn would be ideal for visiting either during or at the end of the walk. Even though it was a Sunday and extremely busy we did not have to wait that long for our meals and service with a great smile was the order of the day. I wouldn't hesitate to return should I ever be in the area again.

Great location

The accommodation was superb but the kitchen did not match up to the menu. The location is great for exploring Hadrian's Wall etc. The proximity of the railway line was a bit of a concern but there are so few trains it is not a problem.

Delicious food, good service.

We called in here on a very sunny evening after spending the day at Kielder. People we spoke to there recommended we eat here on our way home. The beer garden was busy and as we entered it was apparent that everyone had opted to eat out rather than melt cooking at home. We were warmly welcomed and chose a table in the restaurant area after being told that the food would be 30 minutes due to numbers, our drinks order was taken and promptly delivered. The food arrived at the expected time and was very tasty. We both opted for the salmon in hollandaise sauce and it came with a good selection of vegetables and the nicest and most unusual shaped chips I have ever had. everything was piping hot and well cooked. Staff were very pleasant and obviously very busy. It had calmed down a bit by 8.30 on the food front but people were still sitting outside enjoying the warmth as we left at 8.45. We would definitely pay a repeat visit.

Eating Out

Not a good place to eat, dressed crab had no crab meat and the salad was derisery. Modules were so peppery as to be tasteless... Thai Crab cakes had never seen crab...or so little as to be more like Thai potato cakes.. All in all very disappointed and will not be returning.

Whilst on holiday in the area, 16/23 June 2018, my wife and I visited the Boatside Inn twice. We had one meal in the restaurant and one meal in the bar. Although they were busy on both occasions the service was excellent and the staff very friendly and chatty. The food served was excellent and better than we have eaten in some alleged better establishments. On our second visit my wife had chips which arrived on the table barely warm. A quick word with the staff and the situation was rectified very quickly with apologies. We were very impressed with this Inn and enjoyed both of our visits. We considered the food to be very good value for money. If we were to holiday in the area again we would most certainly visit here again. The accommodation on site seemed to very good as well. We had a look so if in the area we could consider it for our stay. The setting of the Inn is very pleasant and in a quiet place.
