A traditional country pub and restaurant near the historic market town of Hexham. The menus are interesting and varied, freshly prepared using local produce wherever possible. The bar has a wide range of beers and an extensive selection of spirits, wines and hot and cold drinks. Meals are served in the restaurant or bar with its log fire, or on sunny summer days in the beer garden.

Great place for a nice meal

Came here for some Sunday lunch and the place is lovely. Wasn't busy which was great as we weren't having to rush or wait to be seated. The options for food were great and the staff were very nice and friendly. When the food was brought to the table, it was all displayed very nicely and tasted amazing! (I ordered the mince and dumplings.) The food was good price wise and I would definitely come again.

Walked from Hexham to the Boat side along the river. Had the most wonderful lunch (try the roulade). 5 people 3 dogs. Wonderful dog friendly place. Staff great. Thank you Boatside, we will return!

Been past this place many time's while out riding the motorbikes, but last night on a cold, dark, and raining night, whilst driving back from Cumbria, we called in for food, as you can imagine with it being a Monday it wasn't very busy at 7:30pm, but it gradually started to fill up, so that should be the first clue as to what to expect with the food, we we're only passing as we we're hungry and not out for dinner as such!... but the food is on point, we had haggis neeps and tatties, a dish usually associated with our friends north of the border, but it was so tasty and really hit the spot, so much so my sister who can always leave room for a dessert was beaten into submission with her main! Good honest wholesome food, good selection on the menu with other favourites like mince and dumplings! Pleasant atmosphere, attentive staff, JMS

Took my daughter for a birthday dinner, but it has changed so much its a shame we had a great time and lovely meal the last time. Starters were ok but main courses poor my daughter enjoyed her salmon, but I had the curry which was horrible , the dumpling on the mince rock hard . They did give us free drinks but it was a spoilt evening sorry.

Change of management, but food still excellent

Met friends here again for lunch, all our starters were great and the mains excellent - cannot fault the service which was as good as before the change. Only one thing grated - this pub has lovely rooms and furniture, yet today we saw a workman in filthy oil stained overalls and an even dirtier high viz jacket sitting down for lunch. Surely the owners should say "not here mate, we have people in nice clothes coming here so please take off your overalls before you come in and dirty the seats".
