Evening dining for all launches at the Castle

The Courtyard opens for dinner on selected Saturdays

People who live in and around Alnwick - as well as visitors to Northumberland – are in for a real culinary treat this year when The Courtyard opens on selected Saturday evenings at Alnwick Castle from 29th June.   To add to the excitement, this dining event will take place in Alnwick Castle’s recently refurbished restaurant The Courtyard, complete with its new bar offering a great range of drinks – as well as locally-made beers and spirits.

This is Alnwick Castle Head Chef, Craig Harvey’s first season in charge evening dining and he’s planning some truly mouth-watering dishes to ensure you enjoy a truly sumptuous experience here.  Craig (40), comes with a very fine dining pedigree and has even cooked for the Queen. He trained with top international chefs and spent two years working at the Ritz in Paris.

Craig is passionate about good food, beautifully cooked with tempting, subtle flavours.  Options will change for each date as the Castle is offering a market menu, but guests will be able to enjoy up to four courses, with three or four choices within each. Each course will be priced individually.

The possible dishes planned for forthcoming dining events here are delicious.  How about chorizo, crispy potatoes and black pudding, or tomato, basil and buffalo bruschetta as an appetiser?  Sample starters include soup of the day with freshly baked bread; cheese and spinach souffle with parmesan cream or seared Orkney king scallops with a smoked wild garlic puree.

Main course sample choices include local spring lamb rump, pan fried chicken breast with fondant potato and asparagus; supreme cod served with mussel and clam chowder: and finally, a vegetarian choice of pearl barley and smelt risotto with foraged mushrooms and woodland black truffle.

Desserts in the sample menu are divine: rhubarb and ginger Northumbrian cream served with orange blossom shortbread; chocolate and salted caramel tart with popcorn ice cream and candied hazelnuts, or local Doddington Dairy cheese board served with chutney and biscuit selection.

Confirmed dates so far this year (with more dates possible) are:
Saturday 29th June, Saturday 20th July, Saturday 31st August, Saturday 28th September and Saturday 19th October.

The Courtyard will be open from 7pm until 9pm with last orders at 8.45pm.  Booking is essential and should be made via email to events@alnwickcastle.com or telephone 01665 511086.

Alnwick Castle is the one of the largest inhabited castles in England; it has been home to the Duke of Northumberland’s family, the Percys, for over 700 years.

Combining magnificent medieval architecture with spectacular Italianate State Rooms, Alnwick Castle is one of the UK’s most significant heritage destinations. In recent years, it has taken starring roles in a number of film and television productions, most famously featuring as Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in the Harry Potter films and as Brancaster Castle in ITV’s Downton Abbey.
