A renaissance of hospitality nestling within an ancient village and landscape of outstanding beauty. A place to entertain and be entertained.
With head chef Simon Hicks at the helm, The Gatehouse is a bold new venture under the umbrella of the Lord Crewe Arms delivering contemporary comfort and culinary excitement within the setting of an ancient fifteenth century gatehouse. With embattled parapets and authentic features, The Gatehouse was formerly linked to the original monastic buildings across the road. It is within this notable historic setting that Simon will display his serious talent and great sense of fun as he demonstrates his artistry for diners to enjoy dinner party style.
Recognising the quest for new "dining out adventures" The Gatehouse features creature comforts with an up-to-the-minute style whilst respecting the wealth of historical characteristics. The interiors, devised by designer Nicky Farquhar and which follow the colours and textures of the surrounding landscape, incorporate relaxed seating round an open fireplace, ideal for pre dining drinks, an open demonstration and dining kitchen and a private dining room that can double up as a meeting room. It is a well thought out conversion - a place to impress.
Simon Hicks and guest chefs
Martin Sweeney, Head Chef at the acclaimed Tramshed in Shoreditch - home to sharing and seasonal food; Tom Fraser from Scotts, renowned for its fish and seasonal game; Great British Menu chef Ronnie Murray of Peckham Manor, Bob Arora from Sachins demonstrating Punjabi cuisine at its best, and Kenny Coltman from Coltmans Peebles are just five of the well-known chefs who are booked to cook and chat at a series of Chef's Table events.
Simon, himself, is running demo classes; cooking with Dads and kids and seasonal food and wine pairings. A maximum of eighteen guests can be accommodated at each of these events.
The Gatehouse and more
As well as having a strong focus on food and drink, The Gatehouse is a relaxing and entertaining space. A series of other events is taking place for guests staying at the Lord Crewe Arms and visitors to the village. These include cinema nights with tasty snacks, Fireside lectures including lunch with authors, Floristry and Wreath making classes and more.
Exclusive use for business and pleasure occasions
The Gatehouse is an intimate venue offering innovation and charm. A discreet venue, away from it all, for important business meetings and dining with a playground of countryside for outdoor adventure and challenge on the doorstep.
As a small wedding venue for up to eighteen guests the appeal of The Gatehouse is unmatched. The exclusivity of this beautiful old building is complemented by the opportunity to use the Lord Crewe Arms for accommodation without the expense of taking over the entire hotel. Photo opportunities abound.
