There will be an extra sparkle in Santa’s eyes this December as his temporary home at South Tynedale Railway, Alston, has been transformed. The railway elves have been very busy giving the grotto a facelift so that visitors enter a magical winter wonderland as they visit Santa by his cosy fire.
Come the Spring the grotto will again be transformed, offering something new for visitors to experience in the Discovery Centre … but fortunately Santa knows how to keep a secret!
This year all bookings are online through the website www.south-tynedale-railway.org.uk and there are still tickets left to book a place on this popular family event. The Santa Special trains run on the weekends of 12th & 13th and 19th – 21st December at 10.30am, 11.30am, 12.30pm, 2pm with the last train departing Alston at 3pm.
All tickets include a train ride, seasonal refreshments and a visit with Santa.
Prices for this traditional day out are adult £13, child £10 which includes a present from Santa. 0 – 2year olds are free and still receive a small gift.
Heather Palmer, General Manager said, “Santa has booked two steam loco's to haul his Santa Express trains this year. After your train ride, the chief elf will lead you to the grotto where each family gets a private visit with Santa as he gives every child a present. Then, pop into the fairy light cavern next door for hot chocolate and seasonal snacks. This traditional family experience has been the official start of Christmas for some families for many years and we look forward to welcoming back the old faces along with the new. We really enjoy our wonderful railway and Christmas is our favourite time of all. Best to book now as some of our coaches are already full.”
